Trail Journeys

Trail Journeys has operated on the popular Otago Central Rail Trail (New Zealand's Original Great Ride) since the rail trail began in 2000. We’ve helped thousands of independent travellers put together great tour itineraries tailored to their special interests, budgets and time constraints. We are Qualmark certified meaning you can be assured of a quality experience in all aspects of your tour. With depots at both ends of the trail, a large fleet of specifically developed bikes, vans and buses and experienced drivers and guides, we make your journey on our Rail Trail comprehensive and effortless. While cycling might form the core activity on your tour, we can incorporate other activities such as Motorsport, 4WD adventures, Curling, Farm visits and many more. As well as operating on the famous Otago Central Rail Trail we also operate on the Queenstown Trails, Roxburgh Gorge Trail & Clutha Gold Trail all with their own unique beauty and history.

Near new cottage which sleeps up to five (2 bedrooms with queen bed each, camp bed in lounge).Beautiful views all around, short drive to town. The family Border Collier Maddy greeted us as our car drove in. The cottage is very well equipped, with dishwasher, induction cooktop, laundry and cloth drying rack. The fridge has bread, milk, yoghurt for our breakfast. They provide packets of cereal, jam, peanut butter, honey, Marmite. I have travelled around the world but i must say i am very impressed with Weavers estate wine's cottage. I hope the owners will get as lot of bookings and build more cottages.

The park is central so easy to find. I especially love the well maintained gardens. There was a beautiful display of bearded irises and peonies when I was there

Grey Ridge Vineyard

Grey Ridge is a boutique vineyard in Alexandra, Central Otago, with the most amazing views across the vineyard to the mountains beyond. At Grey Ridge we offer free and relaxed Wine Tasting from the Cellar Door, along with wine by the glass and platters. The vineyard has only Pinot Noir vines, from which we make four different wines: a White Pinot Noir, a Pinot Rosé, and two Pinot Noir. They are all "Single Vineyard" wines, made from hand tended and hand picked grapes. Our accommodation in our Grey Ridge Vineyard Suite, or Orchard Studio, is spacious and completely private, and you are free to explore the gardens, terraces and the vineyard. When you stay with us your package includes a private vineyard tour with the owner, followed by a private wine tasting and a delicious breakfast the next day. If you would like to join your hosts for a casual home-cooked dinner, (with wine of course) so that you can relax rather than leave the vineyard again, be sure to book that option in advance.

Very welcoming and a fantastic set up. We enjoyed a thoroughly wonderful tasting with Sue and Paul and followed that with a great platter (and yes another glass of wine!!). Great story of the way they came to own the vineyard, and the challenges and successes they have had over the last 5 years. We heard about the cultivation, the winemaker in Alexandra, and the 5 wines they had to share (all 100% Pinot Noir), including a white wine!! Not the normal commercial wine tasting but a glimpse at a boutique operation with friendly, engaging and passionate owners. One of the highlights of our trip.

Alexandra to Clyde River Track

This track which follows the Clutha is much nicer, and no longer that the rail trail route, which, especially if there is a head wind, is just a flat boring slog. The little twists and turns and small undulations add interest, and on a hot summer day the shade from the trees is always welcome.

Alexandra Mountain Clock

Reviewed By Rhondyru

A 5 minute drive up the asphalt road to the summit over looking the entire town, basin, Clutha river and surrounding mountains - so easy to get to - can be walked or biked - or driven for all ages and physical abilities - in a bigger town there would be a gondola for access and restuarant at the top- take a picnic, kfc or coffee or just your camera - just make sure you don't leave town without going up there, oh and it's FREE :)
