One of two original Yagura at Akashi Castle, Hitsujisaru Yagura (the other is Tatsumi Yagura). Considered important cultural property, these Yagura and connecting wall date to 1617. The main keep of Akashi-jou was tore down by the Meiji authorities in 1874, but the three layered castle compound, now a park, is otherwise fairly well preserved, with moats and walls, yagura and a cleared honmaru.
The Yagura can be entered for free on weekends when they are opened by volunteers. They contain small exhibits and importantly offer an opportunity to experience an originally constructed sentry tower from within. Looking out through the small windows onto the grounds below gave me a chill as I imagined a scene some 400 years ago. There is also a wooden platform which allows one to see clearly over the walls across the park. The view is now dominated by Akashi City but in the Edo Period would've afforded clear views of the Akashi Straight, an important shipping route now spanned by Japan's longest suspension bridge.
Akashi is a place dear to my heart, I lived there for a year. If I ever should become eccentrically wealthy, I should like to donate to a rebuilding of the main keep. The yagura are the first thing one sees getting off onto the platform at Akashi train station, but an otherwise flawless shot of both the Yagura is obscured by the overheard cables of the track.

We were mainly interested in visiting the Castle Ruins here but pleasantly surprised that the grounds were quite large and there was heaps to see and do. Lots of people here walking, sitting or riding bikes and the day was quite hot and sunny. We walked along the path towards the lake then up the hill to the Castle steps. It was a lovely half day trip from Kobe.

This is a great place to come to if you want to feel the sea breeze and see some bayside scenery. The Akashi Kaikyo Bridge and Awaji Island are in clear view. You can also catch a pretty sunset at the right time. On then concrete piers, families can be seen fishing or eat if food together . If you don't want to get sand between your toes, but want to feel the sea breeze, this is a great place to hang out.

明石城の東隣にある、市立博物館。常設展示では、8つのテーマに沿って資料展示、解説がされています。明石象の全身骨格の展示、明石原人に係る資料、明石の漁業、城下町明石など、古くからの歴史があり、歌に詠まれ、城下町として発展、漁業でも有名な明石の歴史や文化、生活が理解できました。

明石天文科学館の横の道を登っていき、科学館の裏手の長い階段を登った先にあります。山の上にあるため、山門から明石海峡大橋がきれいに見ることができます。こちらの神社は、旧明石藩主が明石で詠まれた歌も多い、歌聖柿本人麿をこの地にお祀りしたもの。祭神は柿本人麿です。

5月1日開催された春まつり（能楽奉納）に合わせ 訪問しました。 藤の花も鑑賞出来ましたが 残念ながら 当日は曇り空だった為 夕焼けを鑑賞することは出来ませんでした。地形からすると 晴天時に 美しい夕焼けと松林を重ねた景観を楽しめると思いますので 日程調整が可能であれば 晴天日、午後遅くの訪問をお薦めします。6月18（土）と19（日）日10:00～15:00に こちらで《あじさいまつり》が開催予定とありました(添付 写真参照）。

【日本酒】又は【建築物】などに関心ある方で 【《灘》灘五郷（西郷、御影郷、魚崎郷、西宮郷、今津郷）】を訪問される方は多いと思いますが、東の《灘》に対する《西灘》を知る方はあまり多くないと思います。今回”灘五郷”の西宮郷（白鷹、白鹿 など）を訪れた際、《西灘》の存在を知り 明石観光案内所で聞いた”びっくりたこﾄﾞﾝ定食（明石江井島酒館）”が食べられる食事処と同じ駅（山陽電車・西江井ｹ島駅）であることから 妻と伴に訪問しましたが その木造蔵の立派さにﾋﾞｯｸﾘしました（添付 写真参照）。7つの木造蔵を所有しておりますが 現在 酒蔵見学を中止している為外部からしか鑑賞出来ず 道路沿いから1、4、5、6番蔵のみとなりますが １番[明治22年（1889）竣工]と6番[大正7年（1918）竣工]は 道路沿いからでもその大きさが十分にわかり 驚かされます。江井ｹ嶋酒造では【神鷹】ﾌﾞﾗﾝﾄﾞの日本酒を製造しており 【神鷹】ﾌｧﾝの方も多いと思います。 【神鷹】ﾌｧﾝの方 この巨大な木造蔵群を鑑賞したら このような場所で造られていると思うと 今まで以上に惚れるはずです、機会あれば この木造蔵群を見られることお薦めします。 建築物鑑賞ﾌｧﾝの方であれば べた惚れ間違いなしです。
