10 Things to do in Aero That You Shouldn't Miss
Enchanting Aero is the most charming of all the islands of this dramatic archipelago. Just 14 villages and three towns dot this calm 19-mile-long island, where gentle roads amble by villages, windmills, dolmen, thatched farmhouses and rich green fields. A perfect place for bicycling, this capsule of times gone by offers Viking ruins, market towns, fields of flowers and an almost fairy-tale ambiance. The best beach on this, Denmark's sunniest spot, is Risemark Strand, on the island's southern tip.

Every night you can follow the NIGHT WATCH through the old town. On WED the tours are conducted in English - start from the old Town Square at 8 or 9 PM. Check the sign for exact time. The tour takes about 1 hour.

A great local museum that gives you a taste of the seafaring history of Ærø. It has an amazing collection of art that shows so beautifully the life of early Denmark and its seafaring past. There are lots of small seafaring treasures donated from the local community as much as from other sources. This gives you a very complete picture of the shipbuilding past especially. It is spread over 3 buildings each with their own focus. It is interesting for kids and also for adults. There are facilities for wheelchair users and there are good bathrooms. It takes about 2 hours to see it. There are some fun hands on things to try and the staff are really sweet and their English is really good...which when you are a tourist is really appreciated. Well done. We will be back next summer!

Æro is a magical place. An hour or so ferry from Svendborg and you’re transported to an island with history dating back over 400 years. We were fortunate enough to stay at a b&b hosted by a lovely couple. They helped us better understand the history and to prioritize our brief stay.

Cheap entrance. Safe stairs. Awesome view of sea, land and churches. A well worth visit if you find yourself in the neighborhood.

We had an absolutely lovely time heading down the stairs to the beach...or riding our bikes out to these quaint and colorful beach cabins. Unfortunately, the jellyfish were numerous and too many for a dip, but we nevertheless has a super time. Another great memory of our two night stay on Aero! Highly recommend!
