The water was warm and beautiful. My daughter didn't want to get her hair wet so we just hung out in the water and looked out into the ocean to see all the different shades of blue.

We took the subway to Piraeus and had little difficulty finding the ferry to Aegina. We bought tickets for the 12:15 departure and got a 50% discount on the 6:15 PM return. The boat trip takes 90 minutes. Upon arrival, rather than wait for the bus to the Temple of Aphaia(sp?) we rented a car, automatic transmission, for only €35. Availability of automatics might be more limited in high season. The drive to the Temple was delightful. We also drove to the beach (deserted) on the east side of the island and then did a circuit around the south.

Panagiotis and Nektaria started their business in March 2001, with the simple goal of sharing what they already produced - their famous pistachios. Panagiotis, a farmer by trade, has spent 30 years working with pistachio production and cultivation. Nektaria is a passionate confectioner, putting all her love into the sweets she makes using pistachios. Today, at their shop located on the pedestrian street Pan. Ireioti 57, behind Aegina's well-known fish market, you can find Panagiotis' pistachios freshly roasted every day - with or without salt, shelled or raw. Also try the famous housemade pastelli, made with toasted sesame, pistachios and honey, and the pistachio marsipan with caramel. Or go for the traditional almond biscuits, baklava with pistachios, or one of the many spoon sweets and marmalades. - The pistachio came to Aegina in the early 1900s, when N. Peroglou, a doctor, brought the first trees with him from Syria. He kept his plantation hidden at first, but once the secret got out, more plantations slowly but steadily spread over the island, and today the nuts are produced mainly through monoculture. The Aegina pistachio was grafted onto the Chios terebinth tree, and is a variety unique for Aegina island.

Lovely little Promenade, moving along the front from the harbour where the boat from Athens (Piraeus) past a multitude of cafes and restaurants. There are also numerous pistachio nut sellers to bargain with. In the afternoon, there are lots of small fruit/vegetable stalls that open up. The front is highly photogenic.

We had 2 meals here 1 lunch and 1 dinner, the lunch was better with nice fresh sardines, the dinner was ok, the wine is more like scrumpy, the service was good, if you order clams they are served cold, overall it was a good place to visit.

I had seen Tina Kotsoni's jewelry in Amalfi, Italy and I was very impressed! Beautiful colours like acqua, bronze and silver. The store there was closed though and I bumped into them in Aegina along with an array of other pieces of unique handmade jewelry. Iliachtina is actually owned by Tina Kotsoni and her husband. In fact I chose a ring but preferred a different colour and they had it ready for me the next day. Every piece of jewelry in the shop has been carefully selected and they all very stylish. Iliachtina is definitely worth visiting when you visit the island of Aegina.

What an interesting man Capralos must have been. So prolific, such a varied oeuvre. The museum is free and contains many of his works, large, strong, a motive. As well as small paintings, sculpture, drawings, murals.
Simply must be seen. Museum is at his home, so doubly interesting!

We tried on 4 occasions to visit this Museum. It turns out that the Greek authorities cannot afford to pay staff so it is run by volunteers. We were shown around on a Friday evening by a lovely English (and French as well as Greek) - speaking lady who had just finished her week's work in social care. She was extremely knowledgeable, about the building and the artefacts inside. Turns out she has a Masters.
The exhibition is contained within 5 rooms of a house donated to house the Folklore museum. If you have time, nearly every item has a story behind it. We're very glad we kept coming back to see if it was open! After 5.30pm on a Friday seems to be opening time.

It's the only boat rental u can find in aegina.
U can hire boats with 30hp engine without a license (higher engine power requires license).
The boats are all new and very well maintained, which made our adventure free of stress, and were able to go round most of the saronic Islands.
Great experience, will definitely rent another boat from them anytime we are in aegina.
Peter is ur guy. Available all times. Just tell him what u want and if ur nice enough he might give u more than expected ;)

A church by the waterfront, what more could you possibly need? We arrived in Aegina by ferry from Pireas and took a stroll along the waterfront. It was beautiful. We saw dozens of tourist shops, many shops where locals do their shopping, fish markets, pistachio stalls, and we across this really beautiful building. It looked quite inviting from the outside and the interior of the church was even more so. We can only imagine what it must feel like on a Sunday morning with the sound of the waves just metres away, trying to follow a Sunday service! Worth visiting.
