Aegina (/iːˈdʒaɪnə/; Greek: Αίγινα, Aígina [ˈeʝina], Ancient Greek: Αἴγῑνα) is one of the Saronic Islands of Greece in the Saronic Gulf, 27 kilometres (17 miles) from Athens. Tradition derives the name from Aegina the mother of the hero Aeacus, who was born on the island and became its king. During ancient times Aegina was a rival of Athens, the great sea power of the era.

A great day trip from Athens, taking a ferry and the good, but infrequent bus service on the island. The temple is classic, beautiful with great views over the Saronic Gulf. There is a small, but very good, museum on site.

As with many important sites; visiting out of high season is more satisfying & of course cooler. It occupies a prominent spot & with its historic connections, is most definitely worth a visit

This is a small island with a canteen for snacks and cold drinks, fresh orange and beers. There are some animals on the island that you can feed by hand although all we saw was a peacock taking shade. The water in the bay is clear blue where you can swim plugs if you walk further you will find small places where you can fish or swim from off the rocks. The vessel that takes you will drop you off from 1030 and you have the option of being picked up at 1330 - 1530 or 1730. The day we went it was very hot but you can find shade on sun beds under the tree or you can sit in the canteen area.

The water was warm and beautiful. My daughter didn't want to get her hair wet so we just hung out in the water and looked out into the ocean to see all the different shades of blue.

Lovely little Promenade, moving along the front from the harbour where the boat from Athens (Piraeus) past a multitude of cafes and restaurants. There are also numerous pistachio nut sellers to bargain with. In the afternoon, there are lots of small fruit/vegetable stalls that open up. The front is highly photogenic.

This is a short drive from our house in Souvala and we'd always recommend a visit. Lots of interesting things on site and it's across the street from the Paleochora which is a group of tiny very ancient churches set on a hillside which you can walk around. A great combination

If you are on the island of Aegina you must visit this site. It is very interesting. Inside the museum proper there are models of the surrounding town and walls from late Neolithic onwards. After this go out and look at the various excavations around the museum. Highly recommended.
