Bardenas Reales

The Bardenas Reales is a arid desert region that was named a Natural Park in 1999 and incorporates 45,000 hectares of landscapes whose vegetation and rock formations are unique in Europe. The most famous landmark is the Castildetierra. It's landscapes were also famously used as backdrops for "Spaghetti Westerns" filmed in the 1950s. In 2000, it was declared a Biosphere reserve by UNESCO.

Bardenas Reales is special ... a must visit! It's not evident finding information to visit it yourself by car. So drive to the tourist center finca de Aguilares Carretera del Parque Natural in Arguedas. Folow the road to the park and keep driving till you meet a building and the road stops. There you can go left or right on a paved road. We suggest to go to the right. Follow the road and make a marvellous tour in this beautiful area. You need about 90 minutes for this trip. We liked it very much. Normal car is ok, but a lot of dust ... so washing is needed.

If you stay in the Roncesvalles albergue you will definitely come across thic church that is within this monastery complex. It is opended all day, so you can visit it anytime and in the evening there is pilgrim mass at 8 p.m. If you take a pilgrim's dinner in the nearby restaurant at 7 p.m. you will have just enough time to catch the evening mass. Part of the mass is also pilgrim's blessing at the end, were they also read all countries from were today pilgrims are (for Spain they menion also the region).

You must book and try to get there early to avoid too many people. Very nice walk and fascinating waterfalls and pools - eerie blue water. An easy walk with plenty of viewing platforms. A few places to have coffee in the village too!

Town hall is a beautiful old building in the way to everything in Pamplona. When we were there they were celebrating Gay Movement Week or something and Madrid was the hostess to lead it and all the Town Hall is Spain had the Rainbow flag and at night the rainbow lights. Pamplona 's town hall looked beautiful. In front they have concerts and the running of the bulls pass right in front. Quite a place to see

Fortress and Walls of Pamplona

Reviewed By JElliot32 - New South Wales, Australia

We walked around the city walls from the Museum of Navarra and on to the Citadel. It was a really enjoyable and invigorating experience. We had lovely views over the river and the very green landscape that is this city from the (very formidable) old walls, walked between majestic matures, trees and past flower gardens in full bloom and then an 'urban farm' with deer, swans, turkeys, geese and other domestic fowl wandering around. After a while we reached the extraordinary and vast old defensive site of the Citadel (in the 16th century it was a a full pentagon, now it's half a pentagon). Here the land-use pattern changes as inside the citadel is more expansive and open. As well as functioning as an open-air art gallery, the citadel is a recreational space for locals, walking their dogs, relaxing on the benches or the lawns, or maybe teaming up for scratch games of football. No doubt it is now a great asset for this beautiful city,
