Swanson Vineyards Salon

The Swanson philosophy celebrates decadence with a wink -- the mixing of the high with the low. Caviar on a potato chip? We think so! At our winery, we offer out-of-the-ordinary experiences that elevate the everyday. Our inviting Salon offers an intimate wine and food experience, guided by our Salonniere who will walk and talk you through each of your pairings. Or, stop into our whimsical Sip Shoppe for tasting of our current releases. We invite you to come, taste and enjoy.

My wife and I were in Napa for our 1st visit to the area. We had a “non-winery” day and had had Swanson Merlot back home and decided to stop by for an impromptu visit. So glad we did! Nancy was so welcoming and friendly! Very small winery, with a great history (remember your favorite TV dinner:). We sat outside in the courtyard and enjoyed some red wine. Their wines are delicious and extremely affordable. Don’t always need to open a bottle of $100 wines. These wines taste amazing and you can easily open them up to enjoy with a burger. Their wine club is extremely great value! Nancy thanks for your hospitality. Glad we pulled over and paid you a visit Cheers! Kevin and Sue Larson

Grgich Hills Estate is an iconic Napa Valley winery, consistently producing world-class wines. Vintner Hall of Fame inductee Miljenko "Mike" Grgich first earned world-wide recognition when the Chardonnay he crafted won the 1976 Paris Tasting, beating the best of France. For my birthday, I arranged a private tasting with the amazing Toni. This was one the best experiences I’ve ever had. She taught us so much and the wines were delicious!!! We also had the opportunity to stomp grapes which gave me the I Love Lucy experience I’ve always dreamed of! I can’t wait to visit the estate in the near future. Thank you again to Toni for making my day so special!!! This truly was a once and lifetime experience!

Jack and Dolores Cakebread bought a 22-acre parcel in Rutherford in 1972 and the rest is classic Napa history! Cakebread was on our short list of must visit wineries, and we were not disappointed. First, the property is gorgeous, with a casual yet sophisticated ambience (I love the woods used for the buildings). Construction on a new Visitor Center was completed in 2019, and subsequently won Robb Report’s 2020 Best of the Best wine tasting experience. Matt, our knowledgeable and friendly wine host, led us through a tasting of both reds and whites. It was a beautiful experience sipping these elegant wines, seated outdoors on a lovely, spacious patio with views of the vineyards. My husband and I rarely agree on which wine we like the most (honestly, I loved them all, especially the Cakebread Chardonnay Reserve). This time we were both blown away by the 2017 Dancing Bear Ranch Cabernet (Howell Mountain). Being at the winery is a great opportunity to sample (and purchase) a wine that you likely will not find back home.

Caymus Vineyards

Reviewed By BonvoyJunkie - Peoria, United States

My wife and I made a quick, safe visit to Napa Valley on April 1 for the sole purpose of visiting Caymus Vineyards for a wine tasting. What a thrill! We are huge fans of all of the Wagner labels and several related labels (Austin Hope, Belle Glos), so this would be a very special trip regardless. Jackie was our wine educator and she took such good care of us in the courtyard. We kept our tasting reservation for 3 PM and (completely relaxed and un-rushed) we didn't leave the gates until a few minutes after 5 PM. Jackie became an instant friend. Right away she detected our level of knowledge for her product and for the Wagner family and she explained things to us in a way that only made us appreciate Caymus Vineyards even more. This is a perfect place for true fans of Caymus. Like many other operations, Caymus Vineyards is undergoing improvements to its structures and it's not entirely clear what the tasting experience will be like post-COVID; however, given the circumstances of everything else happening now, the people at Caymus Vineyards presented their wines elegantly, but not snobbishly. It was simply a fun afternoon for two big fans of the vineyard's flagship label, the Cabernet Sauvignon. We love that there is no undo pressure to join a wine club. Caymus doesn't even have one. Chuck Wagner respects his retailers so much that he actually sells his wine at the vineyard for a few bucks more than we buy it for in Arizona. No problem. We didn't travel to Napa Valley to score a few bucks off on the wine we love. The point of our trip was to connect with the place and put faces to the names, which we did. Caymus Vineyards will be on every one of our future Napa Valley itineraries. Thank you, Jackie, for all the great stories about the Wagners, their wines, Northern California, and baseball. Hope to see you again soon!

Frog's Leap Winery

Frog’s Leap was founded by John Williams in 1981. Started on a shoestring budget even the name itself was ‘borrowed’ by combining Stag’s Leap, where John started his Napa Valley winemaking career, and the Frog Farm, where the early vintages were made. The winery was relocated in 1994 when John and his family moved Frog’s Leap to the historic Red Barn in the heart of the Rutherford appellation. This grand and welcoming building was built in 1884 as the Adamson Winery and sits amongst some of our 200 acres of estate grown vineyards. Over the past 30 years Frog’s Leap has earned an enviable reputation with our unique combination of a whimsical label, sincere dedication to sustainable principles and our small, handcrafted production of wines. Over the years to come we look forward growing and learning more about ourselves, our wines and how we can share it all with honesty and genuine hospitality.

Had a great time on their heated porch. They give you blankets and a cheese plate while you taste the wines. Our wine expert was awesome and walked us through each wine answering any questions we had. She even let us circle back and have an extra at the end of which we liked the most. The character of the building and the views from the porch are A+. Would definitely recommend!!!

This winery is so popular we had to wait 25 minutes as we did not have a reservation. It has a French influence due to the founder. The staffs were so friendly especially our server Penn he explained in detail about the wines and his recommendations. He also got to know each of us which was pleasant. We tried the Santana sparkling wine ( not in the menu ) instead of going for the wine tasting menu which was 3 glasses or you can also choose the 4 glasses. They provide crackers as well which is a good nibble with the sparkling wine we had. They also serve a plate of cheese if you would like to purchase. I like the view of the vineyard and the big barn. It is a pet friendly place and you can sit indoor or outdoor. The souvenir shop is cute too. Overall it is worth a visit.

Inglenook

The Inglenook legacy began in 1879 when Gustave Niebaum, a Finnish sea captain, wine connoisseur and entrepreneur, came to Rutherford to build a wine estate that would rival Europe's finest. When Niebaum's grandnephew, John Daniel, Jr. inherited the chateau and vineyards in the 1930s, Inglenook had already earned international acclaim. Francis and Eleanor Coppola purchased the property in 1975 and have spent forty years reuniting the original vineyards, returning winemaking operations to the chateau, and restoring Inglenook's illustrious heritage with the help of renowned wine consultant Stephane Derenoncourt and Managing Director and Winemaker Philippe Bascaules. In honor of this estate and its historical significance, we have restored the name, Inglenook.

This trip to Napa I revisited favorites from past visits and Inglenook was at the top of that short list. Just a brief Bistro visit (if you get the chance to do one of the tastings or tour the property to learn its interesting history...I highly recommend both experiences) that included pours of Rubicon and Cab. A terrific weather day to just sip outside and I'll see you again in a couple of weeks. PS: Not exactly sure why the POS doesn't allow one to incude a "tip" as I was low on cash.

Peju Winery

When Tony and Herta "H.B." Peju relocated to Rutherford from Los Angeles 32 years ago, they brought with them a vision of building a winery, an unwavering work ethic, and two young daughters who soaked in the couple's entrepreneurial spirit and love for Napa's beautiful farmland. They established Peju Province Winery and dedicated themselves to welcoming guests and to crafting exceptional wines from their organically farmed estate vineyard. Still family owned and operated today, Peju Province Winery has transformed over the past 32 years from a simple grape growing venture into a landmark winery celebrated for elegant, complex, and balanced wines in the classic Bordeaux varieties.

Beautiful sitting outside in the shade, socially distanced, with great wine and a friendly helpful server...what more could anyone want?! Our experience was terrific. We don't often join wine clubs, but we thought this was worth it! We were shown the room with the magnificent stained glass, with wine bottle series to match. The sculptures on the grounds were also interesting. This a family owned winery that takes pride in everything they do. We would certainly add Peju to the visitation list as their wines are very good, and not widely distributed.
