10 Things to do Good for Big Groups in Viareggio That You Shouldn't Miss

February 25, 2022 Kaleigh Reichenbach

The main city of the northern Tuscan Riviera area of Versilia, Viareggio began as a medieval fishing village, then later gained renown for its shipbuilding. In the mid-19th century, the town was developed as a seaside resort, which it’s been ever since. Today, the city is loved for its long beaches, pine woods, great shopping and lively nightlife. It’s also home to the famous carnival of Viareggio, dating back to the late 19th century and one of Europe’s most important carnival events.

Versilia E-Bike Tours

It is not only the passion for cycling and for our own land that gave birth to Versilia E-Bike Tours, there are many more factors contributing to the rise of new adventures. Since always I preferred two wheels rather than the four of the cars. Always I have explored as a tourist trying to unveil the natural beauties on offroad tracks. Above all, friends and contacts from FIAB, precisely, Biciamici FIAB Viareggio led me to offer a service that was not present in Versilia. Versilia offers mountains and sea and lakes all very close. If we wish to ride flat we can go along the coasts, if we wish to go high we may follow some mountain track up the alps. We desire to explore the more difficult paths up the marble mines that bring to breathtaking views. The choice of using an electric MTB is was fundemental in tackling these tracks even for the less sporty type of person. "I never thought I could go to Lucca and do 85 Km without touching the asphalt once." This is exactly our proposal. To offer diverse itineraries to those with and wihout a passion for MTB and give the chance for groups and individuals to enjoy as well as view the spectacular views found around Versilia. With Versilia E-bike Tours we dont just give you an electric bike but we accompany and build your most preferred excursion. Come and try it!

Pescaturismo Evolution Viareggio

The activity of Pesca-Tourism, a different kind of tourism made not only to show the beauty of the sea and its incredible resources, but also to give the possibility to live for a whole day in touch with the work, the traditions and the legends, that Cpt Alfo will be very proud to make you know in the closest way possible. The departure is usually at 8 a.m. from Viareggio's Pear (the boat is anchored at Piazzale Don Sirio Politi 2, Lungo Molo Palombari dell' Artiglio) makin' route towards the Big Blue to sail the nets put in the previous evening by the crew. In that way the Hosts could learn the secrets of non-industrial fishing by seeing the recovery of depth-fishing nets and partecipating in the sorting of the just-fished fishes (soles, cicale, lobsters, cuttlefishes, squids, octopuses, hakes, red mullets, oratas, turbot fishes, sea basses, mullets). The diversity between the different fishes depends on the technique used; on board are also available fishing rods to try to catch some wonderful fish by yourself (an experience both for experts and amateurs of every age). Then naturally you're going to taste the freshest fish you could eat just right on the boat with the captain and its crew going on in telling you they're stories and how the sea-life as changed through the years and what it means to live it nowaday. 'Course a stop in the sea to dive in the blue is always expected to snorkle have great fun. The return to Viareggio is going to be near 5 p.m. (Max 12 people/boat trip)

Bagno Irene

We were lucky enough to to have beds and a parasol for free at Irene Beach as part of our hotel package. It's a very well kept area of the beach and the service is spot on. Every dish we tried in the restaurant was excellent, well I did sample the Warm Seafood Starter (enough for a very satisfying lunch on its own!) three times! It was delicious each time, slightly different depending on what seafood was available but always good. As was the pasta and the Tuna Salad. Of course if you fancy a change you can nip to the supermarket for something and eat that on your sunbed but the food and drink here is such good value you really don't need to.

Carnival of Viareggio

The Carnevale di Viareggio is a carnival held in the city of Viareggio, Tuscany, Italy. It is one the most popular carnivals in Europe. The tradition of the carnival goes way back to 1873, when the first parade was held. This parade with colorful floats is held on the Viale Regina Margherita and its favorite subjects are caricatures of popular people. The Italians themselves love the Viareggio Carnival and despite the more and more curious tourists, the event holds an authentic Italian character. During the whole month you can enjoy some of the finest Italian culture with colorful night-parties, masked balls, and theater shows.

Whether you are here in beach season or off-season like we were, the stroll along the water is wonderful… With a lovely carnival atmosphere as you pass along the shops and the cabanas… This great little town has an awesome vibe! It’s an easy drive from pizza or Luca, and worth the trip…
