Lake Toba

Reviewed By BertineFlos - Kampen, The Netherlands

We went to the place Tuk Tuk to a very nice guesthouse named Romlan. The ferry brings you to their doorstep. The climate is very nice and the the view very relaxing. You can also rent a scooter to see the island. Loved it. Tip: the ferry leaves from Parapat (tiga raja harbour) to Tuk tuk. On the way back we thought it would be nice to stay one night in Parapat near the harbour. But accomodations are very bad and pricy.so not recommended. We landed on Medan airport. You can take a shared taxi which is okay priced. Later we found out air asia also has a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Silangit which is closer to Lake Toba. From Silangit there is a Damri bus to Parapat (tiga raja harbour) And from there you can take the ferry to Tuk tuk.

Pagaruyung Palace

We visited Pagaruyung palace in August 2019. This palace is the most famous attraction in MinangKabau area. The palace is very beautiful and well preserved. It has typical architecture of Minangkabau style with peaked roofs and walls that are remarkably carved and richly decorated. Then, we visited other typical villages with very beautiful and colourful in the surroundings, i.e. Sulit Air, Pariangan and Rao Rao. Highly recommended to visit!!!

Mount Kerinci

Reviewed By 612carln

My girlfriend and I visited Mount Kerinci during February of 2019. Our guide was Endatno Een. He was mentioned on the tripadvisor page multiple times and came highly recommended. And rightfully so. Afer contacting Endatno he basically managed our entire trip for us by giving us advice on how to reach Kerinci, where to stay and so on. We were quite worried about the weather back then as we had heard that weather conditions during that time of year are often not perfect and the weather can change quite fast. Endatno gave us a realistic assessment of the situation though and encouraged us to do the hike even though we might get wet. For that we are grateful because the hike itself was amazing even though we did get wet (like extremely wet) on the way down. The reason why the hike was so great for us was the vegetation that changed with each stage of the mountain, the chance to see some rare animals as well as the specacular view from the summit area. When the sky cleared you were able to see the Kerinci valley other mountain areas and even the ocean at the horizon. The hike itself was not extremely easy but definetly manageable as we are not experienced hikers and only somewhat sporty. It was important to have Endatno though as he and his colleague carried the supplies and the tent and you definetly need a guide for directions. All in all the hike on Mount Kerinci made for an unforgettable experience and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a great experience off the beaten track to give it a try. And give Endatno a call. With him you got the right guide! Cheers.

Lengkuas Island

Lengkuas Island located in the waters of the Belitung Island, and is about 30 minutes away by boat from Tanjung Kelayang beach or Tanjung Binga in District Sijuk, Belitung. In Lengkuas Island there is Lighthouse, built by Dutch colonial in 1882 and still actively working for marine navigation. Visitors must wash feet with fresh water before entering the lighthouse buildings constructed of steel, because the sea water can cause rust on the building. From the lighthouse, you can see beauty of the white sandy beaches on the island with giant granite rocks and clear sea water greenish.

Marian Shrine of Annai Velangkanni

Reviewed By 650jimmy - Singapore, Singapore

We have known Pastor James for more than 10 years and whenever we are in Medan, will attempt to go and visit the church and meet Pastor James, if he is available. Once I saw him bless a car. He always spent time to speak to the public and we are comforted by him. We go to lick a candle after prayer and also to collect some bottles of holy water for blessing and bring back to Singapore. We will write a petition to ask for blessing and help in our daily life. Please feel free to come and view the historical gallery and buy some sovenirs for remembrance.
