10 Things to do Good for a Rainy Day in Baton Rouge That You Shouldn't Miss

January 16, 2022 Florencio Paulino

Settled by Europeans on Native American hunting grounds, the city of Baton Rouge has grown up under the influence of English, French, Spanish, and native cultures. The city is proud of its Cajun and Creole heritage, with clubs famous for playing the blues, and streets full of restaurants serving up everything from spicy Bayou foods to Caribbean home cooking. Located on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi delta, visitors can watch the sun set over the levees or ride on a riverboat casino.

Both my daughter in law & I enjoyed our massages, they listened to our needs and met them! Rebecca went above and beyond to get the knots out of my daughter in laws back. Queenie, who did my massage, did a fantastic job on the deep tissue/hot stone massage.

13th Gate Escape

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be an Adventurer like Indiana Jones or a Tomb Raider like Laura Croft? Or maybe how it would feel to be trapped in a horror movie like Saw or Silence of the Lambs? Could you escape a maximum security prison or survive a night in a Haunted Asylum, or break into a bank vault to steal a priceless jewel without setting off the alarms?

Let me start this by saying my friend and I have done around 175 rooms in places all over the world. Before this, our favorite room was a place in Amsterdam. This place has now taken the torch. They take Escape Rooms to another level. The aesthetics, the visuals, the props, the games, the immersive experience, the grand scope Of the rooms. They definitely take this ALL up a notch. Their top room is Cutthroat Cavern. The game is a spectacle on its own. It is a grand scale game. Very unique experience. The puzzles are AMAZING. My second favorite room was Asylum. Great jump scares. Amazing scale on this game. Spellbound was my third favorite. All games have a great flow to them and the staff is extremely helpful. If you only have time to do one. Do Cutthroat Cavern for sure. Best Escape Rooms in the United States. For now. Until we find another one.

Three Roll Estate

Three Roll Estate opened in Spring of 2017 in downtown Baton Rouge. It is a full production distillery, and features a Tasting Room, outdoor courtyard and tours (by reservation only). Three Roll Estate was created in partnership with Alma Sugar Plantation. The partnership between the sugar mill and the distillery allows for a unique control over the quality of spirits produced. This results in one of the country’s only estate bottled producers of spirits and rhum agricole in the continental U.S. From our farm, to our mill, to our distillery, to your glass - we ferment our own.

We took a tour of the Three Roll Estate facility and had a tasting of their amazing rums! Each one has a unique flavor, and everything was so incredibly impressive. Kendrick was truly extraordinary! Three Roll Estate is extremely lucky to have such a talented and professional individual. We had a young one with us, and he made her a fruit juice drink and let her try sugar cane. Simply. Amazing. This was a highlight to our trip. If you like distilleries, do yourself a favor and don’t miss out on this experience!!!

Louisiana State Capitol

This art deco masterpiece has been the site of a bombing, an assassination and the infinite machinations of state kingpins and politicos.

Reviewed By edieann - Denver, United States

Having been very disappointed by the Florida capitol “skyscraper” I had few expectations for the tallest of the capitol buildings: Louisiana. I was pleasantly surprised by the gorgeous art deco rotunda, House and Senate. We were lucky to arrive at the start time of a tour. Without our tour guide Bernard we would have missed out on the history, creation and stories of the current capitol building and the governor who created the building and was also shot there, Huey Long. We spent more than an hour touring the first floor, marveling at the incredible beauty of the marble, depiction of Louisiana’s history in bas relief just below the ceiling circling the rotunda, and in the solid bronze doors leading to the chambers. Not to mention the statuary, ceiling patterns and pencil like wood shard imbedded in the ceiling of the senate, a reminder of the dynamite bomb that had been planted and detonated in 1970. We also heard a number of conspiracy theories regarding the shooting of Governor Long plus got to see the two unfilled bullet holes left from the shooting.

Once the home to nine Louisiana Governors, this restored house museum includes memorabilia such as Huey Long's pajamas and Jimmie Davis' guitar, and is furnished to reflect the era in which it was occupied, 1930-1962.
