10 Things to do for Honeymoon in Lake Tahoe (Nevada) That You Shouldn't Miss

January 1, 2022 Kelli Reichel

With the bluest of blue water and the greenest of green surrounding forest, Lake Tahoe, quite simply, transfixes. From the early Indians to authors such as Mark Twain, folks have tried to capture the beauty and mystique of the lake with nicknames like "Big Blue" and "Grasshopper Soup." Others maintain that it's impossible to describe the magnificence in words. At 6,225 feet above sea level, Tahoe is the highest alpine lake in the United States and has long attracted vacationers from around the world. In the summer, hiking, windsurfing, golfing, fishing and swimming (usually in wet suits due to the lake's brisk year-round temperature) are all the rage. The winter season, which actually starts around Thanksgiving, brings throngs of skiers to area resorts. Located between California and Nevada, different sides of the lake tend to attract different types of visitors. The California side draws families and outdoor enthusiasts while the Nevada side beckons those looking for big name entertainment and casinos. No matter which side you choose, a getaway to stunning Lake Tahoe will not soon be forgotten.

We planned the tour at the beginning of our trip so we would have an idea of where we might want to return. The tour was more fun and informative than we ever imagined. It was literally one of the best parts of our trip! Jim was an amazing guide.

This is a beautiful state park well worth the $10 entrance fee along the east shoreline of Lake Tahoe. You can use the entrance fee the same day to visit Cave Rock state park as well which is closer to South Lake Tahoe. The walking paths along the shore of Sand Harbor are very nice and the scenery is excellent. Check out the visitors center as well.

We made reservations and the process of securing our kayaks was made much easier as a result. Friendly staff that was efficient in getting us checked in and on the water. We rented two tandem kayaks and it was an amazing way to see the north shore area of the lake. Renting kayaks right on the water made for a super easy rental and return. Wonderful day...just remember to not neglect putting sunscreen on your legs like we did.

Excellent customer service. While at the hottest season the folks at AWS really tried to accommodate our last minute ask (same day) for a boat rental, and succeeded. Checking in was way simpler than with other rentals we experienced before At the check in and check out EVERYONE were genuinely friendly (found it pretty unique). we were notified about a possible storm, but advised that we can take the boat to as much as we want and be credited back if returning the boat earlier. Needless to say that we had a blast.
