10 Sightseeing Tours in Jaisalmer That You Shouldn't Miss

July 17, 2021 Hana Mouser

The dramatic and romantic desert fortress of Jaisalmer is an exotic city in Rajasthan’s great Thar Desert. "The Golden City" rose to prominence as a result of its position on camel trade routes. It's now most famous for the 12th-century fort and ornate "Havelis," fine merchant-built houses and pavilions in the city’s medieval lanes. The surrounding Desert National Park offers opportunities to observe blackbucks, desert foxes and chinkaras amid the rolling dunes, rugged crags and waterholes.

Since my early childhood I've always dreamed about desert. Thar desert is a incredible place. With one of my best friends we had the opportunity to have a camel safari by Fifu. My wife and I visited for one night experience. The staff were so amazing and helpful. We were picked up in the back of a Jeep Wrangler with 2 other couples. A bit tight since we had 4 pieces of luggage and 2 backpacks. They managed to fit on the roof of the car fine tho! The drive was about 45 long. Once we reached, we were offered tea/coffee and an hour to relax before our camel Safari began. We saddled up on the camels, really not so bad. A little scary at first when they stand (and sit). The walk was about a kilometer, where we unloaded in the dunes for about an hour to watch the sun set. Beautiful experience! We saddled back up and went back to the tents to prepare for our cultural dinner and ceremonies. This was awesome! The band/dancers did an amazing job! Unique experience and well worth the time / money. The over night stay have is an awesome view if the dark, starry sky. It was really cold (45 F) and there was no heat inside the tents. The blankets given by the staff were enough to make me sweat then entire night tho. The washer was relatively modern, to be in a tent. If you can't handle a little dirt, nature and silence, don't go here. Otherwise, I highly recommend!

A very well arranged tour by Mystic Jaisalmer. The tuk tuk ride with Moosa ji was incredible. Mr. Moosa was so professional, he picked me up from my hotel on time and was very courteous. Also, he ensured that all the covid regulations were being followed. Along with the host from Mystic Jaisalmer, Mr. Ashraf Ali, Moosa ji customised his set tour of the city to my liking - they understood exactly what I was interested in. What i really appreciated was that while Moosa ji is very informative, he does not unnecessarily talk too much... :) I would most certainly recommend everyone to do this tour. My journey would have been incomplete, had I not decided to do this tour.

My sister and I booked with Indian Holidays travel for the first part of our three week trip around India. Veeru was great to deal with while planning in advance and was able to adjust the tour to fit our needs. We were satisfied with the price point and all accommodations. We were greeted by Kalyan and Veeru at the airport at around 4am which was a kind gesture. Kalyan was an excellent driver and companion for the trip around Delhi, Agra and Jaipur - we enjoyed chatting with him and learning about his family. Veeru also arranged for our travel in Amritsar where Pal was a great driver as well. We also had excellent guides, and particularly learned a lot from Khan in Agra, Dilip in Jaipur, and Happy in Amritsar. Overall our favourite place was Amritsar for its offerings - the Golden Temple, going to an Indian wedding with Happy and our ultimate destination of the Wagah-Attari border. It was the best day ever! I enjoyed every second of it. So much excitement at the border and felt part of something very patriotic. Two areas of complaint would be that we did not have great communication about what we would be doing each day. Despite being on the itinerary, we missed out on a number of things because the guide determined we didn't have enough time, even though it wasn't discussed with us what we would prefer doing. Also be cautious that guides in India will always try to take you to an expensive, tourist restaurants that we did not request. Even after repeatedly telling guides we preferred a dhaba or something cheap, we would still end up somewhere that would cost the same as nice dinner out at home. They will also take you to expensive tourist shops that did not interest us and we found wasted a lot of time because we knew we weren't going to buy marble, carpets, etc.
