I spent two days at Lambeau Field. The first day was a Saturday, where I visited the Packers Hall of Fame, had a stadium tour with Packer's legend Leroy Butler and went to the Packers Pro Shop. Shout out to the lovely ladies behind the desk who loaded me up with a bunch of free promo gear to take back to my friends here in Australia and taught me how to deal with the freezing cold. The hall of fame was two stories of the history of not only the Green Bay Packers, but of football itself. Exhibits showing the evolution of player protection, important games of Packers history and the Packers Hall of Fame display room (full of bronzed footballs, each with the details of important figures in Packers history) were highlights. After this I took a pre-booked alumni tour. Whilst originally a little hesitant because of the price (about AUD$100), this turned out to be the most amazing part of the day. Leroy Butler - four time Pro-Bowl cornerback and inventor of the Lambeau Leap - took us into the owner's box, through the tunnels and out next to the field itself (which unfortunately we weren't able to go onto due to the game happening the next day) to take photos with us all behind the end zone. Finishing off the evening, I went downstairs into the Packers Pro Shop. Literally any product you could think of was available with a green G logo on it, although the prices were exorbitant. The staff were absolutely lovely and helpful though. To top off my brilliant day, as I stood alone in the carpark in dark, freezing weather facing a 20 minute wait for my Uber, I saw this large man running towards me screaming "Hey Australia! Let's take some more selfies!!!" It was none other than Leroy Butler, who waited with me in the freezing cold, peppering me with questions about Australia. Leroy - if you see this, the offer is still there to show you Australia if you ever come over. My second day was Sunday game day, Packers vs the visiting Atlanta Falcons. For fifteen years of fandom I had dreamed of seeing an NFL game live, and finally I was about to see my beloved Packers at home. First of all, although the line-up was huge, the security staff managed to keep things moving incredibly fast - no small feat considering attendance was over 78,000 people! Concessions were typically expensive, but in freezing temperatures being able to buy hot chocolate with peppermint schnapps in it was one of the best things I could imagine. One of the most surprising things about Lambeau is that no matter where your seats are, you are guaranteed a great view of the field. It truly is a marvel of engineering. Thankfully I was in the lower section, about 15 rows back from the field on the 30 yard line, but everyone around me was wild and having a lot of fun, encouraging me to get involved as we beat the Falcons. I even got to see Aaron Rodgers break an NFL record (completed passes without an interception)! A tip for people from warmer climates - dress in layers. No, more layers than that. Before wind chill it was -10 degrees Celsius (wind chill taking it down past -20C) in the middle of the day. Maybe it's because I'm from tropical Australia, but I wore four layers of clothing plus mittens and a beanie and still was shivering cold. Heating pads are also essential purchases. All in all, Lambeau was somehow even better than I dreamed it would be. I will be back again some day.

Welcome to Taliesin Preservation! This is one of the best places to visit and learn about the life of Frank Lloyd Wright, both personal and professional. It is located about 30 minutes West of Madison, WI, and 2.5 hours from Chicago, IL. There are a variety of tours offered at Taliesin. We went on the Taliesin House 2-hour tour. The tour guide, Linda, was very engaging and knowledgeable about Frank Lloyd Wright’s professional achievements and intricacies in his personal life. By walking from one room to another, it was amazing to “touch” and feel the environment the great architect had lived in. There was so much curiosity around every corner. The architectural element simplicity had blended beautifully with the surrounding nature view as well as the artifacts inside and carefully designed interior. Time went by so quickly. Come and visit the Taliesin Preservation. Learn more about Frank Lloyd Wright’s accomplishments and have a full day of relaxation. Enjoy your visit at Taliesin Preservation!

Absolutely great tour, very good docents, and incredible property. But the 1.5 hour (free) tour was just too short. No time to investigate the amazing museum at the end or even visit the gift shop. That seemed odd. Would have loved to have taken photos of the interior, not sure what that’s about but I would recommend this tour to anyone with even the slightest interest in Frank Lloyd Wright, history or architecture. My exterior photos were a hit with all my friends.

We drove the Great River Road from St Louis to Minneapolis and followed the Wisconsin section from the river crossing at Dubuque all the way up to Prescott, with a stop-over in La Crosse for one night. This was by far my favourite section of the road, offering a great, continuous view of the river for much of the way, unlike many long sections downstream where the river can vanish from sight for long periods. The section from Prairie du Chien to La Crosse was particularly enjoyable, given that we drove it as dusk approached and were able to enjoy the sun setting over the river as we went along. There are plenty of interesting towns and villages you might care to visit along the way - we found La Crosse to be much bigger than we'd anticipated, which worked out well as we were spoilt for choice when it came to finding somewhere to eat for the evening. This was a really memorable drive and one I'm unlikely to forget in a hurry.

Polish immigrants built the Basilica over 115 years ago using salvaged materials from the razed U.S. Post Office and Custom House federal building in Chicago. Its 250 foot high copper dome is the icon of the diverse neighborhood the Basilica serves today. The Basilica hosts community events, performances of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and others. The St. Josaphat Basilica Foundation, a 501(c)(3) works with the Franciscans to preserve and restore the Basilica. All are welcome!

...at least for me. First of all, the place is psycho-beautiful with amazing gilded architecture colored in powerful Catholic art, iconography, whatever... I sure did miss seeing world-class places like this this past year. In this typical, kind of beat-up American city, the basilica is a palace with its deep awe-inspiring imagery and objects. It's both a gift and scar left behind in the wake of an obscene history the church created across the world. It's also a confusing dichotomy that both perplexes and seduces me at the same time. I'm like both in a daze and state of intimacy when I'm in a place like this. Anyway secondly, there was this guy who said he was a priest that started talking to me. I guess he was a priest, but he didn't have one of those collars on. He was just sitting in one the benches (pew?) in the main hall (nave?). He started talking to me and blurting out his life story: Vietnam vet, priest for over 40 years, cancer and chemo, even end of life issues. At first it all seemed so over the top and inappropriate, but I don't know. I wound-up asking him if the church is going to guide/see him through his final years. I told him the VA is going to be the people who do that for me. I guess that makes the VA my religion now. I also took a shot at him about the priest/abuse thing saying his team has really "taken it on the chin" about that stuff. He quickly tried to deflect and play the victim card a little. Anyway, I guess I'm meeting new people again. Couldn't do that while wigging-out about catching COVID like I did for the past year in Pittsburgh.

Impeccably maintained (includes vast amount original furnishings and restoration) and in-depth tour information created a very interesting visit to the mansion. First time visit to Milwaukee and this tour highlights the influence of the Pabst family in the 19th century. Highly recommend (not sure about young kids though). And a message to the man who wasn't patient enough to wait for the next tour - that picture he shows is the gift shop where the tour starts. This is not part of the original house and maybe that's why it hasn't been maintained as faithfully as the inside of the house which is fabulous.

Beautiful house and tour. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and provided a great history of the house and the surrounding area. This mansion is unique in that 90% of the furnishings are original to the house, and that is very, very unusual. This mansion and related tour are highly recommended.
