Necropoli di San Simplicio

The archaeological area of San Simplicio Temple Necropolis, the new important museum of Olbia, preserves part of the archaeological excavation carried out during the redevelopment works of the area in front of San Simplicio Basilica. The excavations brought to light about 450 graves of the Roman age (200 BC to 300 BC) representing a stratification of suburban and necropolis worship phases, it crosses the first 2000 years of the history of Olbia, from its birth with the Phoenicians to the Middle Age. The archaeological site, provides a tangible testimony of the ancient town of Olbia, and goes together with the exhibition of findings of the archaeological Museum. Its uniqueness is related to the fact that this site is integrated in the layers of the modern town and the ancient residential area and its necropolis.

I visited at the time of the saint's festival in May. There was an extensive street market adjacent to the church, local children were giving guided tours of the church interior, and there was a fair close by. A great atmosphere and a little gem of a church to visit.

Porto Rotondo

A stunning, picturesque harbour, cafes, ice cream shops and designer clothes shops for the fashionista's of this world. The cafe we went to was surprisingly not expensive so even though this place is for the more heavily pocketed people of the world us less well pocketed persons can certainly eat at a cafe without breaking the bank. Very friendly shop owners and make you very welcome to come into their shops. A very quiet place and apart from the shops around the harbour there isn't much else. However for sheer beauty a must to see. Oh by the way if you have 1200 Euro spare cash you can take a yacht out for the day. Oohs that would have been lovely but didn't have that sort of cash at hand.
