Matanzas (Spanish pronunciation: [maˈtansas]) is the capital of the Cuban province of Matanzas. Known for its poets, culture, and Afro-Cuban folklore, it is located on the northern shore of the island of Cuba, on the Bay of Matanzas (Spanish Bahia de Matanzas), 90 kilometres (56 mi) east of the capital Havana and 32 kilometres (20 mi) west of the resort town of Varadero.

When you stop at the bar next to the bridge, you can take beautiful pictures of the Yumuri Valley, totally worthy!

This park sits on to of a hill. It has the Moserrate Chapel and a great view on one side of the whole city of Matanzas, the blue bay and on the other side, the Yumjri Valley. Great place to just relax a get away from the noise of the city. I highly recommend a visit when visiting Matanzas. You can reach it by Taxi and you can negotiate for the taxi to come back to pick you up at a certain hour. It should not cost any more than 4.00 CUC each way. 1 CUC = 1 US Dollar

We loved this museum. It's free and donation based and the man in charge is a lovely older gentleman named Maximo. We've never met someone so enthusiastic and passionate about his city and history regarding the firefighters of Matanzas. Our favorite part was the stories he told about the Cuban-American counter-revolutionaries and the objects they confiscated from them as late as 2016! Lots of spy-worthy stories and a rich history of an organization that does a lot of good for the city. Tip : You'll make Maximo's day if you bring any firefighter memorabilia from your city/state/country to add to the museum's. collection. Badges, t-shirts, caps, etc.

Entertaining boat ride from the Crocodile Zoo to the Taino village on the islands across the lake. A tour of the statuary explains their pre-columbian life. We saw pelicans in trees and even Ospreys that migrate for winter down here (kinda like us). Giftshop, Bar and Banyos, what else do you need!

This ancient fortress in Matanzas is worth the visit. The guide gives a great explanation on the slave trade in Cuba, the building of the fortress/castle and the various revolutions that have taken place. Well worth the time to visit!
