10 Shopping in Union Square That You Shouldn't Miss

March 25, 2022 Darwin Bolte

Every neighborhood in San Francisco has its own personality, from the hippie chic of the Upper Haight to the hipster grit of the Mission. The Marina district boasts trendy bistros and postcard-perfect views of the Golden Gate Bridge, while Noe Valley offers quaint and quiet boutiques. Wave hello to the sea lions at Pier 39, and sample local cheese and charcuterie at the Ferry Building. Sit in on a yoga session in Dolores Park or marvel at the Dutch Windmill across from Ocean Beach.

I’m a busy professional, and I was looking to celebrate a major promotion (11 years in the making) and had my eye on a selective timepiece. I had been looking for months, repeatedly calling places around the Bay Area but had no luck. One day on a whim, I called Shreve & Co SF and that’s where my luck changed. I was connected to Mr. Jason Krepka—a very kind, knowledgeable and responsive professional. He admitted that my desired watch might not be available immediately, but that he would look out for it and stay in touch. Sometime thereafter, he notified me that he had indeed received one originally promised to another client but who had since declined. Jason offered to make an appointment for me to see “the watch” in person and I jumped at the opportunity. I only had a short window during the week to drive to SF from the Palo Alto area, and Jason said to just text him so he could meet me there, even though it was his day off. I repeat--he personally came in to show me the watch on his day off! I arrived and walked into the most beautiful store I had ever seen. It felt like the entire store had been reserved just for me, and looking back, it was the personal attention from the staff that created this experience. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Shreve SF especially because of Jason, and I of course purchased “the watch”. If you are looking for something special along with exceptional service, then this is the place to go, and Jason Krepka is your man!

Upscale kitchenware and gourmet food emporium.

Three stories plus a mezzanine level. They had hot chocolate and cider and they were giving out samples. I was told this was their flagship store and I believe it. They are stocked up with kitchen and diminish gadgets, food related gifts, and even furniture. It’s a nice place to check out and it’s right on Union Square.
