October 28, 2021 Major Galusha

The Hawaiian island of Maui is a destination for true nature lovers. The ethereal bamboo forest and churning waterfalls in Haleakala National Park can be explored via the Waimoku Falls Trail. Stretch out on warm, golden sands or hit the surf for an unforgettable windsurfing or snorkeling session. Driving the scenic road to Hana along the island’s northeastern shore will be among the most spectacular journeys of your life. Time stands still at the Hawaiian village of Keanae, definitely worth a visit.

Wow! We happened to walk by Maui on Metal, just by chance and were incredibly impressed by the photos and staff there. Kayanna was really knowledgeable and went out of her way to present us with options for the piece that we had chosen. We selected “Pele’s Night” which is absolutely amazing — it has both lava AND the Milky Way all in a single photo. COVID has been really tough on local businesses and we’re happy to know that this business is going to be able to continue to operate, and also glad that we could support them by purchasing a piece. If you are in Maui, this is definitely worth a visit — even if you don’t take a piece home, you’ll have an opportunity to view the beauty of the photos on display!

Maui Hands

I have not traveled much but am starting. I like to buy something of quality to remember my trip by. Maui Hands was perfect for this with a variety of pieces made by local artists. I ended up purchasing a one of a kind gold ring with four beautiful gems. LOVE IT! And Ii bought a gold and pearl necklace. My adult daughter treated herself to a one of a kind blue gem stone gold ring with matching earrings. Yep, the blue reminded us of the beautifull ocean. Hope to visit this spot again and find anohter life treasure.

Husband and I spent more than an hour in this gallery and would have spent even more time if we could. The art is amazing and I wanted to take home at least 4 pieces and I don't even have a home with an island themed room. Not only are the paintings terrific, so is the pottery and jewelry. This is a very special place, the real deal.

We had to come in here when we saw the giant bronze sculpture of a grasshopper on a motorcycle in the front window. If I had an extra $6 grand lying around I'd have taken home the working spider clock or cat clock. I like creepy weird slightly "off" surreal art with a dark feel to it and was not expecting to find that in Maui, but here it is! The gallery staff was friendly. Really enjoyed spending some time hear.

Makai Glass Maui

Makai Glass features unique glass blown sculptures inspired by the sea and volcanic formations of the Hawaiian Islands. Artists Justin Brown and Randy Schaffer and their team of glass artist create each glass piece with the “breath of aloha”, infusing it with their love for the islands and its inhabitants. Each hand-sculpted piece carries its own unique, magical quality that illuminates with the Hawaiian essence wherever showcased. Feel the spirit again and again by preserving your memory of the islands through Makai Glass. The name "MAKAI" is Hawaiian and was chosen for its meaning, "toward the sea" or "ocean side". It's symbolic to the Artists because of their attraction to the island of Maui and their adoration of its mystical sea life and wave formations. It also incorporates the idea of movement, flow and reflection, which are all characteristics of glass and its evolution from hot molten lava-like fluid to the smooth, perfected piece you see today. A trip to Makai Glass Creations is an ABSOLUTE MUST If on Maui. Even if you are not, we have found we can watch Randy Shaffer and the artisans at Makai on live Facebook sessions. Check it out. Yes it is hot upstairs in the viewing area so it would be tough to watch a complete creation. We watched for 3 hours on a Facebook live session while they created an ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS whale breach for us. Randy and the gang are so fun to work with, wether at the Craft Faire’s at the Westin or at the Gallery in Haliimaile across from the Haliimaile General Store restaurant. During the Covid shut down, they have expanded their gallery so definitely take a look at them on line at Makaiglass.com because you will not believe their creativity and expertise. Looking forward to our next visit in March. ????
