Basilique Notre Dame de Boulogne-sur-Mer

For 160 years, the Notre-Dame basilica has dominated the city with its vertiginous dome. It succeeds the medieval cathedral, destroyed in 1798, and owes its existence to a single man, Father Haffreingue. This modest priest, and amateur architect, devoted his life to the revival of a sanctuary dedicated to the Virgin Nautoniere, guardian figure of the city since the 7th century. Saint-Paul-de-Londres, Saint-Pierre de Rome and Saint-Louis des Invalides were his sources of inspiration.

Eglise Saint-Leger de Lens

Reviewed By jaywalkingaroundtown - Calgary, Canada

Lens is a small French town. Not really big, however, it has everything you need if you are there to spend the day. We stoped by at Lens after a day at the Vimy Ridge Memorial which is only 16 minutes by car via D55 until roundabout then route to Arras until you arrive. Or D51 until N17, A211 until you arrive at the town. Lens is small but has some sightseeing, all the stores you need and excellent cafes and restaurants. Parking lot in front of the central church is paid by the hour. We couldn't find free parking.
