Welcoming, tolerant Gran Canaria offers a little something for everyone. Families flock to the water parks and beaches of Puerto Rico. Those seeking peaceful escape scamper to Mogan's quiet fishing villages. Gay visitors crowd the bars, restaurants and beaches of Playa del Ingles. Urban attractions are on offer in Las Palmas. Three highways open up the island for those with a rental car or a bus schedule. Prime sites to visit include Iglesia de San Juan Bautista de Arucas and Palmalitos zoo park.

Street with upscale shopping
Anything you want is probably here, there are many restaurants along the way and no cars so walking is easy and leisurely. Lots of local shops. Try cafe SOL for coffee. Nice service and presentation and a good energy boost along the way. Very fair prices.

One of the best beaches on the island, it was developed with sand imported from the caribbean as part of the Anfi del Mar resort. It is a great place to spend time - made even better with less-crowded, socially distanced sunbeds when we visited.

Lovely peaceful square with nice statues and a nice place to chill out and relax. Very clean and tidy.

We hired a car from the port of Las Palmas where we were staying to do an island tour. This was our second village, half an hour from Las Palmas port. Easy parking, easy to find, beautiful water feature with glazed tiles and benching. Walk up to the church and old stone laundry area, then to the Canaria Island models. Stop for a coffee. Very pretty mill and views as well. 2 hours for all.

If twisting roads and sheer drops are not your thing then don't go. This is the highest point on the island and if you are out this way and have a car you should go. There are walks to do from this point but there is notca lot of parking available.

We parked our car near the bus station and passed the Town Hall on our way to Calle Real. This is the main street that runs through the heart of Teror, leading to Basilica de Nuestra Senora del Pino with its elaborate alter. It is lined with beautifully preserved old buildings with colourful facades and typical Canarian features such as balconies, tiled roofs and doorways. There are shops and cafes to pass the time. Nearby is Palacio Episcopal You can spend a nice couple of hours here if you are prepared to wander around. Good place for photographers
