Ritch Grissom Memorial Wetlands

Reviewed By overmountains3 - Melbourne, United States

Wonderful relaxing drive through to enjoy and educate yourselves on our migrating birds and other wildlife. Please keep your pets at home. There are many very large Alligators that would love to have a meal. Children need to keep voices down and be supervised by adults. This is not a playground. There are many professional nationwide photographers and artists that travel to enjoy our wetlands. Please respect their space and our wildlife too.

Barrier Island Center

The 34-acre Sanctuary and education center offers visitors a place to explore the dynamic coastal environment. An observation deck, boardwalk and overlook offer magnificent views of the Atlantic Ocean. A 1-mile hiking trail winds visitors across the barrier island, from the ocean to the Indian River Lagoon. Inside visitors can explore aquariums and interactive exhibits, view eco-themed movies in the theater, or shop in the Mermaid's Purse gift shop. The Sanctuary is the environmental education center for the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge, one of the most important nesting beaches in the world for sea turtles. Guided sea turtle walks are offered during June and July and a variety of environmental education programs and activities are regularly offered for visitors of all ages. Admission is always free, open Tuesday-Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

You can fish at this park, just walk around or go to the park area. We park there and then walk over the Max Brewer Bridge watching the dolphins in the water. When it gets warmer you can see the manatees there with their babies

Blue Heron Water reclamation district

Approximately 3 mile drive around several lakes and marshes. Saw at least six very large alligators and hundreds of birds. Once you pass the processing facility you'd never know you're in a reclamation facility.
