Allan Houser Sculpture Gardens and Gallery

Just a 30 minute drive from Santa Fe, off the historic Turquoise Trail, the Allan Houser Sculpture Garden and Gallery offer the rare opportunity to experience the work of an American Master Artist. The gardens feature approximately seventy bronze, steel, and original stone sculptures, set among lush Juniper Pines and breathtaking mountain vistas. The gallery contains four rooms of smaller sculptures, drawings, and paintings. This property is closed to the general public, but private tours are available Monday-Saturday year round. It is recommended to contact us at least four days in advance to book a tour. Please note: the gravel paths of the gardens are not handicap accessible. We can provide a golf cart (seats up to five people) for visitors with mobility limitations.

Be forewarned that reservations are required. Allan Houser was an amazing Native American artist and sculptor. His history and works are on display and should not be missed! We accompanied friends who made the reservations. The tour was amazing and educational. It was the highlight of our trip to the Santa Fe area!

Wiford Gallary and Sculpture Garden

This Gallery is mostly outdoors...you will want to sit and watch (so bring a coffee or the like?) and be mesmerized by these moving sculptures you will surely want to buy. They also have stationary sculptures that would add interest to your garden but we spent more time watch the moving wind sculptures. This area is full of galleries and can be crowded if not visited in the off season. Advice: go early to snag parking or take public transport.

Hyde Memorial State Park

Located in a breathtaking natural setting, this park is ideal for picnics and camping.

We just spent a couple of nights in a yurt in Hyde Park. Very nicely outfitted and perfect for people who don’t have a lot of camping gear but want to enjoy the outdoors. The three yurts are fairly close to each other which is too bad, but our neighbors were quiet and not a bother. The skylight is great for star gazing in the night and the 6 beds that come with the yurt were comfortable. Very close to the Borrego Trail - a lively hiking trail that is popular with Santa Feans. Also so close to town if you get tired of cooking on a campfire, it’s a 15 minute drive to downtown Santa Fe and 10 minutes to 10,000 waves.

Being a local, I went here for the first time and wished I’d come sooner. The short trail behind the Audubon center was excellent- well-maintained and full of birds to identify. I will be back to enjoy the solitude and natural beauty.

Old Fort Marcy Park

Built by the U.S. Army in 1846 to protect the American presence in Santa Fe, the remains of this historic military fort still stand on a hill overlooking the town.

It's held in Marcy Park. Google for details. But you must go to get rid of of all the old stuff once! Can't miss! We locals love to chant burn burn. His eyes glow and he roars. Just the best! And you can put your one message as they build him. Way cool!
