10 Nature & Parks in Lesbos That You Shouldn't Miss

May 27, 2021 Renato Branum

Lesbos (/ˈlɛzbɒs/, US: /ˈlɛzboʊs/; Greek: Λέσβος Lesvos, pronounced [ˈlezvos]), sometimes referred to as Mytilene after its capital, is a Greek island located in the northeastern Aegean Sea. It has an area of 1,633 km (631 sq mi) with 320 kilometres (199 miles) of coastline, making it the third largest island in Greece. It is separated from Turkey by the narrow Mytilini Strait and in late Palaeolithic/Mesolithic times was joined to the Anatolian mainland before the end of the last glacial period.

Tsonia Beach

Reviewed By TonyDownham - Knaresborough, United Kingdom

Whilst Tsonia is approx 50 minutes drive from Molyvos where we stayed, it was so nice we went several times. Tsonia is a small bay with a functional harbour at one end and a narrow curving beach. There are a few bars / tavernas half way round and at the opposite end of the beach, otherwise the beach isn’t over developed. As it is East facing this means that the shadows of trees spread over the beach from mid day giving very welcome shade. The water is warm and crystal clear. Fish can be seen all across the bay but snorkelling around the rocks at the far end of the beach turns up a multitude of sea creatures.

Vatera Beach

Reviewed By Retiredwithaloha - Brooklyn, United States

Most beautiful beach in all of Greece (and I’ve been to a lot of them!) Eight km of natural unspoiled beauty. Even though there are a few small hotels it is still very unpopulated. You can find areas where you have the place to yourself. There is a river at each end and there are turtles in the river! The water is crystal clear and quite calm.
