Kiptopeke State Park

One of the best spots for bird-watching.

Reviewed By JC0420 - Cape Charles, United States

We go hiking and bird watching all year at Kiptopeke State Park. Because it is in the eastern most part of the state it is a very well used flyway for migrating birds. They also have a really nice Hawk watching station. The Park has an excellent boat ramp. The boat ramp may be a little crowded at times but if you are willing to wait a few minutes there is always a slot to launch and a place to park your truck and trailer. Finally, the Park also has a really nice beach so lots to enjoy.

Assateague Beach

Reviewed By ididntwantausername - Centralia, United States

We visited from the Toms Cove Visitor Center, though the center was closed both times we came - it closes at 4pm. The sunset there is unforgettable. Very few people visiting, and the beach is very clean. Tons of gulls for birdwatching. And of course it's beautiful just gazing at the waves coming in, appreciating the sea foam and reflecting on the world.

Cape Charles Beach

Reviewed By Airisian - Northern Virginia, United States

We've been to Cape Charles several times now and love this beach with young children because of the very gentle waves, plentiful soft sand, and very shallow waters for even the youngest toddlers to play in.

Savage Neck Dunes Dunes Natural Area Preserve

Reviewed By MikeGA19591982 - Chesapeake, United States

This is a gorgeous natural area on the Chesapeake Bay. It's an easy 1/2 a mile or so hike through a beautiful wood to a wild, natural and open beach. The dunes are pretty tall and give fantastic views. It's pretty far off the beaten track so you'll probably have the beach to yourself. You'll need a good map or GPS to find it.

Chincoteague Veteran's Memorial Park

Reviewed By Gerryp84 - Petersburg, United States

What a wonderful park this is! It’s definitely worth bringing your kids here to enjoy the big playgrounds they have. They also have a picnic pavilion, kayak launch, basketball court, tennis court, and restroom. The equipment here is great. We stayed in a house across the street so were there a lot. We stayed four days and saw somebody from the city doing something at the park three of the days. One was just trash, the other was evening out mulch, and another was drying off the tennis courts after a rain. So it is a very well cares for place! The kids loved it and spent lots of time here!
