10 Museums in Malá Strana (Little Quarter) That You Shouldn't Miss

June 25, 2021 Russell Mellin

The bohemian allure and fairytale features of Prague make it a perfect destination for beach-weary vacationers who want to immerse themselves in culture. You could devote an entire day to exploring Prazsky hrad (Prague Castle), then refueling over a hearty dinner at a classic Czech tavern. Spend some time wandering the Old Town Square before heading over to gape at The Old Town Hall and Astronomical Clock. Prague’s best bars are found in cellars, where historic pubs set the scene for a night of traditional tippling.

Bel Art Gallery

Reviewed By FlyingFluffster

I first came across Bel Art Gallery while visiting Prague in 2018 & what a treat it was! I couldn’t resist buying one of their exquisite ceramic angels which they had featured in the shop window. I love it so much that I simply had to return on my next trip in 2019 to add to my collection! My dealing with the owner couldn’t have been better & my in-store experience there is one of the highlights of my trip. He went to such incredible lengths to package this delicate object so that it would travel safely back to Germany with me! With current COVID restrictions, unfortunately, I haven’t been back there since but I wanted to purchase a few more of these pieces as gifts but this time from afar. From start to finish I can only rave about my experience. The turnaround was very quick and I was so impressed with how meticulously & carefully they were all packaged. They even constructed a special wooden crate to ensure that the box was robust enough to protect all three angels! It took quite a while to get through all the intricate layers of bubble wrap but it was so worth the wait! And everything in perfect condition too! Whether you are in Prague in person or wish to buy online, you will be in the very best of hands! Although that said, I do hope to get back there in person again soon!!

Fotograf na plech

I am offering a unique first-hand experience of a mesmerising 170-years-old photographic technique called wet plate collodion. No digital camera hidden inside a decrepit bellows - this is the real deal, 100% handmade original photographs on tin plates that will last for many generations (and perhaps confuse a future archeologist or two). By booking with me you will not only get an everlasting memory of you time spent in Prague, but also experience the magic of 19th century photography in real life and gain an understanding of how difficult yet rewarding photography was back then. I am an experienced portrait and documentary photographer with a small studio at Malá Strana, the Lesser Side, in the very heart of old Prague. I have had the pleasure of working with hundreds of clients from all over the world. My works was awarded with several prizes including two 1st place awards at Czech Press Photo (Portrait, Arts).

Ceske Muzeum Hudby

The new seat of the Czech Museum of Music is located in the former Baroque church of St. Mary Magdalene at Lesser Side, built in the 17th Century according to the proposal of Francesco Caratti. The church was gradually rebuilt after the dissolution of the Dominican Monastery in 1783. Among other things, it served as a Police barracks and archive. The unusual symbiosis of the early Baroque church architecture with the classicist adjustment of usage and newly finished reconstruction of the Museum offers visitors a detail of an impressive combination of monumentality.

Several absolute winners for me: 1. Free to play piano in the main hall. Live/ad hoc/spontaneous art is great. 2. Main hall accoustic is great. I'd love to sing there. Staff let us enjoy the building! 3. Wonderful exhibit on folk music really piqued my interest. 4. Musical steps - musical + physical + novelty was very fun. 5. As a long-time cautious observer of the theremin, enjoyed failing to play my 1st instrument. Harder than it looks! 6. Wonderful collection of early instruments and well presented with contextual descriptions. The contrast of early and new(er) was delightful.
