Finland's largest ski resort, Lapland's Ylläs has 61 slopes, the longest running two miles, with a vertical drop of over a quarter mile. This is the highest Finnish fell (mountain) with ski lifts, and there are 29 here in all. Also at Ylläs are 210 miles of cross-country tracks, 24 miles of which are lit.

Siida - Sami Museum and Nature Center

Siida is your guide to the Sami Culture and the diverse nature of Northern Lapland. Siida is under renovations and renewal. Siida is closed in May 2021. 1.6.2021 onwards until 31.3.2022, you can visit Siida's historic open-air museum. Restaurant Sarrit serves customers in the new restaurant wing. And costumer service and Siida Shop can be found in a temporary builduing infront of Siida. 1.4.2022 Is the opening of new and improved Siida. This Sami museum is really fascinating with a wealth of detail of the nature of Lapland and the habits and history of the original population, the Sami. We learned so much. We also liked the temporary exhibitions presented.

The buildings on Pöykkölä farm date from the end of the 1800’s and are built on the shores of the River Kemijoki. Open: June-August. At other times by arrangement.

Levilla kaydessa ala Jaya kaymatta. Huippu ruoka iloinen ja ystavallinen palvelu. When you visit in Levi don’t miss this place. Marvelous food, cheerful and lovely service. And don’t forget the snow castle.

Good exhibition about the history of cold digging in Finnish Lapland. The adjoining exhibition explains history of cold mining around the word. Next door to the museum is Tankavaara cold village, where you can try out cold digging yourself.

Salla Museum of War & Reconstruction

Salla Museum of War and Reconstruction is located in a building that was originally made 1948 for railway workers and their families. The Museum's exhibition tells about the history of Salla municipality which was known as Kuolajärvi until year 1936. Salla was involved in the Second World War (1939–1944) and suffered heavy destructions. An enormous effort was made to rebuild the municipality – by the year 1950 nearly 400 new farms, many schools and a church were built.

The museum is small, but you could easily spend here for two hours. We got a presentation of Salla WWII history concerning the railroad and the part of Salla lost to Soviet Union after the war. There are additional films to watch the reconstruction era. Worth a visit.
