Katryna taught a step-by-step Leoma Lovegrove inspired painting class. I was astonished that I could reproduce anything remotely resembling the subject matter! Katryna is able to encourage the artist out! Fun. Relaxed. No pressure. Zero experience needed. But you need to experience art in the garden!

Gulf Coast Model Railroad

Shell Point Retirement Community's massive 43' x 41' model train display features several running trains and hundreds of recognizable miniature geographic landmarks. The popular attraction is open from October through April each year, with free tours on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., conducted by Shell Point resident volunteers who enjoy model railroads as a hobby and want to share their interest with others. Landmarks to explore include Tallahassee's old Capitol Building, Pensacola freight yards, the Gainesville Gator Bowl, Walt Disney World, Kennedy Space Center with an orbiting space shuttle, Everglades National Park, the Sanibel Lighthouse, and even Shell Point Retirement Community. Be sure to check out the realistic "burning" house in St. Petersburg, with simulated smoke pouring out of the windows. The Gulf Coast Model Railroad has welcomed visitors since 1973, with Shell Point resident volunteers who serve as conductors on each journey "around the state." Ticket booth Millie welcomes more than 3,000 guests each year, many who write complimentary comments after their free tour (donations are appreciated).

This quaint and cozy little gallery has been supporting and promoting local artists since 2008! In their new location, inside the Butterfly Estates of Fort Myers, they occupy a beautiful space, surrounded by flowers and butterflies. Inside, you’ll find a world of amazing creations from pottery to paintings, sculptures and fine crafts, jewelry and more. It’s amazing that 99% of their inventory is created by artists living right here in SWFL. If you’ve never visited, wow. What are you wait here for and please buy something to support this venue. It is the only one of its kind and they rely on their commissions from sales to survive. I will definitely come back and continue to support this amazing venue. Very scenic area and gardens with two beautiful homes that provide a glimpse into American history. My wife and I enjoyed a relaxing walk through the gardens and learned about two of the very influential business men and their families. The museum on site was also very educational. Definitely a excellent visit in the Fort Myers area.

This art center in Downtown Fort Myers is a 23,000 square foot Neoclassical Revival building built in 1933 on the site of the old fort. The columns on the front are made of limestone from the Florida Keys and the walls are embedded with coral and sea shells. I've never seen anything quite like it; it is very eye-catching! In 1960, the building was converted into a Federal Court House, but in 1998 it was abandoned. It then suffered a lot of damage and many of the original fixtures were removed or destroyed. In 2003, a not-for-profit organization obtained a 99 year lease from the city and began renovations. In 2007, Berne Davis pledged $1 Million for restoration and the name of the building was changed in honor of the family's contribution. This is when renovation of the first floor began. By the end of 2008, 10,000 square feet of the building had been restored. Another grant of $650,000 was received in 2012, and those renovations were completed in 2014. The building is currently used for arts education, music lessons, lectures, art exhibitions, and independent film screenings. The enormous luminaria in the front of the building are lighted at night and are spectacular to see and walk around. They are covered in cut out words that narrate a story, and the words fall on the building and all around. Its a spectacular building to see and it is wonderful that it was rescued.
