10 Museums in Curacao That You Shouldn't Miss

June 29, 2021 Tambra Mccollister

Serious divers have long flocked to Curacao. Whether you’re looking for a challenging wall dive or a shallow snorkeling spot, you’ll find it here. Beaches, of course, are another big draw. With sugar-fine sand and calm waters, they’re perfect for kids. And make sure to explore Willemstad, Curacao’s capital city. Its charming pastel buildings and equally colorful history earned it recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage City.

Motorsports Museum of Curacao

Since 1965 the islanders have been organizing motorsport. Whether it's Hillclimbs at Nieuwpoort, Rally's, International Drag Racing and Go-Karting competition, we've been able to curate a sample of how it used to be back in the day, almost entirely out of original artifacts. There's also an exhibition dedicated to modern drag racing, such as Mountain Motor Pro Stock and the like.

We were very interested in visiting this brand new museum next to gallery Bloemhof. It surpassed our expectations! We got a private tour from the owners and their adorable daughter. The owner is a geologist who gave an enthusiastic and interesting explanation of Curacao’s geological formation accompanied with plenty visual examples which included a large collection of interesting rocks and beautiful shells as well. His wife is an accomplished photographer who displayed her work in one of the rooms of the museum. We ended up buying two of her pictures. We highly recommend this museum!

Oldest synagogue in the Western Hemisphere, it is Sephardic and has sand covered floors. Attached museum is well worth the $10pp, we spent 2 hours there, definitely the best museum in Curacao that we visited. The congregation welcomes visitors for Shabbat services on Friday and Saturday.

Our guide, Florence, was very informative and explained everything very well in both English & Spanish! The history here in Curaçao is plenty and this outdoor-oriented museum does a great job demonstrating what life was like back in the day for rural curaçao. Highly recommend. Takes about 35-45 minutes.

Amazing history in this little island and very well-presented in the museum. Don't miss the George Maduro video. Definitely worth the entrance fee.
