10 Multi-day Tours in Sapa That You Shouldn't Miss

July 27, 2021 Madelene Haan

The northwest market town of Sapa is colorful and charming, providing the perfect oasis in the midst of a strenuous mountain trek or rice-paddy tour. The Gothic stone church at the center of town is a bull’s-eye in the center of shops and stalls, serving as a reminder of the town’s French missionary influence. Dine on Vietnamese or European-inspired cuisine downtown, and don’t miss the Saturday night "love market," one of the most potent—and strictest—single’s nights imaginable.

It’s worth 2 days 1 night to get away from the busy city, go up to the North to a beautiful place like Sapa. The sleeper bus took us about 6 hours from Hanoi to the destination. We stayed in a nice hotel with comfortable room and fully furnished. Our tour guide was Tom, he speaks good English and has a great sense of humor. The hightlight of the first day was Cat Cat village (must visit if you come to Sapa). The view’s breathtaking, everything’s so close to nature and made me feel relaxing and tranquil. At lunch, we had some delicious local food and vegetables. On the second day, we had to walk a quite long way to another village. The road was winding and treacherous so I think it’s not suitable if you go with children. However, it’s worthy. In here, we could know more about the life of H’mong and Red Dzao communities through seeing them working and behaving. Moreover, they sell lots of Vietnamese brocade things such as bags, scarf, purses, etc. There were some children follow and ask you to buy and help them so remember to have some candies with you to give them cause you can not buy things for all kids there but they keep following you. Anyways, it’s such a great opportunity to explore the culture of local minority people. Overall, the tour was amazing and well-organized. Many thanks to Tom and the company as well. Highly recommend!

I had a really great & fun time on this tour. I went on my own and while waiting for the bus to arrive to start our journey a couple of young Vietnamese girls took me under their wing by talking to me and kept it up all the way thru the tour. They were very friendly and delightful. Also Luong (Louis) was a lot of fun too. He was very friendly, professional. ejoyed a good joke or two and always made sure that I was fine and enjoying myself and all the activities that I did with the other tour members.

We were contacted immediately after booking the trip and all communication was good. Guide collected us at 9.15am as arranged and was a nice Mhong girl. Unfortunately she spoke very little English and clearly knew nothing about anywhere she was taking us, or could not share any knowledge due to no English. Not her fault but clearly the fault of the tour operator not caring at all about our (my daughter and I) experience. I texted him pretty much straight away and he finally decided he could send another guide. By then we’d met another couple of people on a private trip whose guide was fantastic - great English, very knowledgeable about the area, the tribes and the villages. We paid her and joined the tour and had a great day. The tour operator lied to Aviator and said he had cancelled the tour due to bad weather. A lie designed to deflect any blame - pathetic. He refunded our money which is the only good thing I can say.
