I'm originally from Ghana, but have not been there in a while. I booked my flight with Voyageback and it was a lot more affordable than with other booking companies. While in Ghana, I wanted to do some touristy things so I booked a few excursions with Voyageback and I must say that they were amazing! I visited Cape Coast and Elmina Castles, and discovered a lot about the slave trade. I also did a city tour in Accra and discovered more about my country of birth than I ever thought I could. I highly recommend taking your next trip with Voyageback.

I traveled in January 2020, just before COVID hit the world. I met Confidence in Ivory Coast and traveled through that country first. He arranged a driver to pickup my sister in Ghana and the four of us continued to travel through Ghana, Togo, Benin and Nigeria. Before I arrived I had to change my itinerary a couple of times and Confidence willingly made the changes I needed to add my sister coming, etc. I was reluctant to pay the entire amount of the tour when I arrived (I had sent over a deposit before I arrived), but we worked out a compromise for paying him as needed to cover costs. As an American I wasn't accustomed to paying 100% up front, so you may want to discuss the payment arrangements with Confidence so you feel comfortable with the needed payments. Evans, Confidence's brother and driver, was a great addition to our group as the roads are totally treacherous in West Africa, and you want to feel safe while you are over there driving to different places! Because I wanted to meet my sponsored child in Ghana while I was there, we had to drive on some very bad roads, and Evans did an excellent job of getting us there safely!! We had a car with Nigerian license plates to make it easier to cross into Nigeria. This smaller vehicle was OK for 4 people, but when we added a French speaking guide in Togo and Benin, it was quite crowded in the back seat with 3 adults. You may want to discuss upgrading to a larger vehicle depending on the number of people in your party. I am so happy to have been able to meet my sponsored child and see extraordinary West Africa! As a travel agent, I have traveled the world and this trip was one of the most memorable!! Confidence and Evans gave us so much insight into life in Africa and we had an awesome time! Also, Confidence's wife is an excellent seamstress and sells the most beautiful African dresses. I asked if she could make me a small dress for my granddaughter and she was able to do this in a couple of days, and I also purchased a few children's shirts out of their beautiful fabrics!

The environment is stunning, however the accommodation was poor and extremely overpriced. Although we paid 50% deposit beforehand, our African hut was unavailable upon arrival. We were told it would be available the next day, but this did not happen. So we were given a villa, which although had an impressive view, meant we had to share accommodation with others instead of having our own place. The kitchen in the villa was literally falling apart and we had power sockets coming out of the wall. We had to strongly 'negotiate' a discount, which we were eventually given. We had no water for a day and a half and had to use buckets of water to wash and flush the toilets. All this at a cost which would rival a 5 star hotel. This coupled with the 7 hour extremely uncomfortable (and sometimes dangerous) road trip to get there ensured this is certainly not a place we will be recommending.

7. 2-Day Private Tour of the Suspended Lake of Ado Awaye from Lagos

Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria Tour2Nigeria

High in the sky soars the tranquil Iyake Lake, also known as Ado-Awaye Lake, reposed graciously at the peak of Oke-Ado Mountain in Oyo State, southwest Nigeria. These mountains spread from Ado-Awaye town into the surrounding plains, standing imposingly above the verdant rainforests; and they hold numerous natural, cultural and historical attractions which are of great spiritual significance to the Ado-Awaye people.
