10 Multi-day Tours in Chiang Mai That You Shouldn't Miss

July 22, 2021 Darwin Bolte

You could spend your whole Chiang Mai vacation exploring the famous Night Bazaar. Once you’ve exhausted the art of the cheerful haggle, however, there’s plenty more to explore. The National Museum and Botanic Garden are great places to soak up some local culture and to breathe in the delicate fragrance of Thai orchids. In the city’s center, the remains of ancient walls embrace over 30 temples. Limber travelers can climb 300 stairs to Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, an ornate Buddhist temple in the hills.

Went on the 5 day Christmas Ride of Northern Thailand during the Covid shutdown. Hadn't been on a bike bike in a while but picked it back up quickly as the Versys 650 lived up to the hype being a very comfortable and powerful machine. Going into the trip I was expecting to do a casual stroll through the world famous Thailand twisted. What I got was a thrill of a lifetime! Forgot just how much fun carving turn after turn on stunningly beautiful roads on a big bike was. We made rest stops about every hour or so which was good. Not having ridden in a while I was quite surprised I never got uncomfortable on the bike. Kay and Noah looked after all the details for us well and the bikes were well maintained. The hotels were more than adequate and the meals were authentic. If your into sportbiking, you don't want to miss taking a tour with big bike tours. Novice riders take note, you will be pushed to your limits so if your into adrenaline, go for it! Truly a "bucket list" tour! Thanks again Kay and Noah.

After looking into different elephant sanctuaries in Thailand, I finally settled on Kindred Spirit Elephant Sanctuary (KSES). And am I glad I ever did! My week there was an amazing one I’ll never forget. What most attracted me to this sanctuary was that the elephants get to roam in a large area of forest and that I would get to see elephants in their natural habitat. Every day, we would hike to where the elephants were and observe them as they went about their day eating, mud or dust bathing and socializing with each other. The staff at the sanctuary taught us about Asian elephants, patiently answered our many questions and did everything they could to make our week there an enjoyable one. Having the chance to stay at a homestay with one of the families in the Karen Hill Tribe village was also a unique experience. The villagers are friendly and welcoming. Meals are home cooked and delicious. Being picked up from and dropped off in Chiang Mai made getting to and from KSES easy and hassle-free. I would highly recommend a visit to KSES to anyone who is interested in seeing elephants at an ethical sanctuary. It’s a fantastic experience and I would love to one day go back!

I loved this trip so much! Our group of four women spent three full days driving through the Doi Inthanon National Park area, and I can't imagine a better way to see this beautiful part of the country than this trip. We all agreed that we were happiest when we were driving or riding along in our tuk tuks, but another highlight for me was the beautiful hike on our last day through waterfalls, rice fields, and a cute village. The campsite on the first night was comfortable and the tents were clean, and our host Ken made a delicious meal over the campfire. Bruce and Yaya were the perfect guides, and I really enjoyed getting to know them through the whole trip. We stopped at unique places that we never would have found on our own, and even got to drive through a brand new stretch of the road that was completely empty (and beautiful). I can't recommend this trip more!

Feb 2020 The trip enabled us to get off the beaten track. Not only did we experience the fabulous temples of Chiang Rai, the Tham Luang Cave rescue site and the Golden Triangle but we visited a number of local villages. Anan was a fabulous guide and the way he was able to interact with the local villagers made the trip a wonderful experience including watching a gentleman collecting ant lavae from high in a tree. Our home stay with Anan and his family gave us an insight into his local village life, family and community. On the last day of our trip we met up with Su and her Lisu tribe. She showed us around the village and included us in the New Year activities. Su was so warm and accommodating. Deo our driver did a great job keeping us safe on the roads. We hope you are all keeping safe from Covid 19.
