New Zealand (/njuːˈziːlənd/ ( listen); Māori: Aotearoa [aɔˈtɛaɾɔa]) is an island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. The country geographically comprises two main landmasses—the North Island (Te Ika-a-Māui), and the South Island (Te Waipounamu)—and around 600 smaller islands. New Zealand is situated some 1,500 kilometres (900 mi) east of Australia across the Tasman Sea and roughly 1,000 kilometres (600 mi) south of the Pacific island areas of New Caledonia, Fiji, and Tonga. Because of its remoteness, it was one of the last lands to be settled by humans. During its long period of isolation, New Zealand developed a distinct biodiversity of animal, fungal and plant life. The country's varied topography and its sharp mountain peaks, such as the Southern Alps, owe much to the tectonic uplift of land and volcanic eruptions. New Zealand's capital city is Wellington, while its most populous city is Auckland.

NZ Warbirds At Ardmore provides an opportunity to the public to get close to the operational and static aircraft of the Association. Recently visited the Lion and Tusk Museum in Tauranga. It is a most impressive display of Rhodesiana Military Memorabilia with a couple of special displays highlighting Kiwis who served in the Rhodesian Army. The Museum is manned by knowledgeable volunteers who are available to answer any questions. A must visit for all residents and visitors to Tauranga. To get the most benefit spend a couple of hours enjoying the displays and browsing the extensive library.

Stopped of here for a brief visit while on a tour of NZ I was impressed by the range of Exhibits on display and the knowledge of the guides friendly staff, and a nice little cafe, and its free, (Donations Welcomed)# well worth a stop off

Much prefer from Te Papa great fun more of a world range to look at really nice way to spend a day. Has cafe food and nice tours, never feel to crowded and have plenty of time to look at everything

Dedicated to New Zealanders and military allies from other areas including Great Britain, U.S., Turkey, Australia, Pacific Islands, etc. the memorial is very impressive and has a crupt with an unknown soldier.

These volunteers have achieved a museum well worth visiting. For anyone aviation interested, there is an amazing collection of aircraft. The museum is well laid out and easy to move around, and with individual explanations.

This museum highlights the history of the New Zealand Navy. They use personal stories of individuals to describe historic battles, complete with artifacts and photographs of the individuals, making the stories more personal. There were photographs of contemporary naval personnel as well as wall-size photographs of the crews from historic vessels. Many exhibits were interactive enough to draw you in but not so much as to distract from the story. Admission is free, but donations are welcome. There's a small shop as well as a cafe right on the waterfront. Great way to spend a day in town, and very accessible from the ferry dock. Ferries run every half hour to the main terminal in Auckland. Great place to get away from the cruise ship for a peaceful day.

A great little museum just off SH1 in Waiouru. We were staying overnight before venturing over the desert road in winter and were looking got something to fill a couple of hours. So glad we did. The café was not open and there is another part they are still developing but the main museum is great anyway. The exhibits take you from the NZ wars right through to present day campaigns (although for some reason the child's activity sheet took us round in reverse order). If you go round in chronological order you finish in a beautiful greenstone memorial.
