Perfect Location!

Reviewed By GlobeTrotting796415

We selected the Duke William because it had been a stop for our traveling companions many years ago. It is a pub that has resided at that location since the 1600's and has 9 en-suite rooms. The location is perfect for walking to the main street of the town, Lincoln Castle and Lincoln Cathedral. The rooms were top drawer and the food very good. The staff was pleasant and responsive to our requests. The one concern we had was access to the WiFi amenity. Even though the staff responded to the concern, we were not certain the technical issue was fully addressed/corrected. We all were eventually able to access the system but the situation was frustrating. Overall, it was a very nice stay at a historically valuable property.

This is a great place to be when you would rather feel like a nuisance than as a welcomed guest.

Reviewed By joris1111

This is a great place to be when you would rather feel like a nuisance than as a welcomed guest. We had booked a luggage transfer service to deliver our luggage ahead of our arrival. When we made it to the Woolmarket House, we found our luggage left outside the b&b - anyone caring enough about their guests would have taken it in. There was no one to check us in either. It felt all very impersonal. We actually didn’t see any member of staff until we were awoken an hour early than indicated that it wouldn’t be possible to have breakfast in the outside area. On that topic: it was apparently decided for us that we should have breakfast in our room. There was for whatever reason no possibility to have it in the communal area. It also ment we had to make coffee and tea ourselves in the room. Breakfast - which we had to order on arrival by leaving a filled out template on a table in the hallway- was not according to what we had filled in. Nothing you would expect for the cost of the accommodation. Leaving again, we inquired where we should leave our luggage as it was to picked up between 9 and 11. According to the member of staff, it would be in the way of other guests inside and she would have preferred us to leave it outside. We’re not sure what happened here. One thing is quite clear: this accommodation is not in the business for the values of hospitality, it serves mostly the goal of profit maximisation. This level of service would be ok at a (much) lower price point. As it is now, things were way below our expectations.

Old Downton Lodge

Fascinating. Intriguing. Mesmeric. Pure escapism just seven miles from Ludlow, in some respects, Old Downton Lodge defies description: It is not a hotel, nor is it really a bed and breakfast or a restaurant with rooms. Each of the nine bedrooms are unforgettable – stylishly converted from historic farm buildings surrounding a flower bedecked courtyard, each is quirky, luxurious, packed with history and designed to make you smile. The hospitality is relaxed and genuine. The food – served in a dramatic dining hall - is exceptional and the wine list inspired.

An amazing place

Reviewed By JLWetherby

In a very interesting location with access via a single track road with limited passing places, we had a tricky reverse for a delivery van on the way out, but you end up in a very peaceful environment which is not easy to describe as it is not like anywhere we have stayed before. It is well worth the effort, the staff are very helpful and the food and service good.

Mold all over bathroom!

Do not stay here. The staff were rude and made it seem like we were a nuisance for providing feedback about our room! When we asked to be moved due to the mold and filth of the room, we were denied. The pictures are descieving. There was MOLD all over my bathroom. The wallpapers were peeling off everywhere. I have never experienced a room so horrendous! I will never be staying here again.

Very disappointed

Reviewed By sue5665Cornwall

The Hotel was a real disappointment & needs to be taken off of booking.com & TripAdvisor needs to review the listing as it is false advertising. Ignore any reviews or photos as these were from the previous owners but it now belongs to the chain OYO Hotels. No staff, no breakfast or any other food, no bar, dirty rooms, ripped sheets, disgusting shower, horrible smell in the indoor pool area & the outdoor pool OMG, the whole place need a deep clean. We have 2 flats that we let out & if they were in this state we would be shut down. We stayed in the superior suite with sea view & payed over £130 per night !
