10 hotels in Valletta: Best hotel deals for 2023

August 8, 2022 Claudia Navarrete

Founded in 1565 by the Order of St John as a refuge for soldiers returning from the Crusades, Valletta is now the capital of Malta and a piece of living history. With an unsurpassed collection of original Baroque architecture, fortified city walls overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, and the spectacular Co-Cathedral of St John, which features intricately carved stone vaults and a famed painting by Caravaggio, it is no wonder that this smallest of European capital cities is a world heritage site.

The Gomerino Hotel

Fantastic Hotel in a marvellous City, on a wonderful Island

Reviewed By LeonR272

The Gomerino is everything you could want and so much more. The location is perfect for Valletta, the building elegant and the staff simply amazing. We had a lovely room, a few more hooks in the bathroom would be nice, however nothing else to worry about. It was kept clean and was the best base for our visit. The breakfast was so nice, and something to look forward to on a daily basis. The spa was wonderful, as was the lovely roof terrace, which was such a pleasure to rest on, have a drink, a dip in the plunge pool and lie on and take in the sun. The best thing about the Hotel though is the staff. From Amber, Raina, and Jennyfer on reception, to whom nothing was too difficult and their advice and guidance on trips/visits/restaurants/everything was just brilliant. To the breakfast team of Ana, Sharona, Alex, Claudia and all the staff looking after a great service. And Veronica on the Terrace looking after guests there, and the lovely guy cleaning the rooms.. They were all an absolute credit to the Hotel and were the difference between us having a nice weeks break and a superb holiday, thank you to all of them.

We had the most amazing holiday at the Embassy. The staff really do make the hotel experience. When we arrived we were warmly welcomed by Alexzander (sp) he really is a credit to the hotel. Everytime we saw him he made us feel so special and welcomed. The staff on the roof terrace are all so welcoming aswel. We want to give special thanks to two staff who really stood out to us. Khan, he was so attentive, and so friendly. He even came over and said hello when he saw us at the start of his shift. We’re so sorry we knocked over a glass at the pool area- this was no problem for him he was so lovely and reassured us it wasent a problem he really is an amazing staff member. We also want to thank so much, a very tall blonde gentleman who we weren’t able to get the name of unfortunately. He was also an examplary staff member and even bought our towels over to us as we got out the pool. We were not expecting that kind of service, we were so appreciative of your amazing staff! Thankyou so much again for a lovely holiday!

More like 3 star than 5.

Reviewed By LESLEY N

If you re looking for a 5 star hotel then don’t stay here. It needs a total facelift. I don’t mind old buildings but I don’t like old shabby furniture, curtains, shower curtains and pool towels that need the bin!! The hotel is at the bottom of a very steep hill that takes you up to town. Or you could tackle the 100 steps. Totally unsuitable for anyone with mobility problems. On first appearance breakfast looks alright but it’s all so tasteless. I ended up settling for toast as I didn’t think you could get a bit of bread wrong. The maitre d’ was unfriendly on entering the dining room. Barked “room number” then pointed to another member of staff who took you to your table. Not as much as a good morning from either of them. The outdoor pool is nice and clean but with lots of tiles missing and tiles around the outside are broken or damaged. This place needs shut down for a year and given a total make over!! Do yourself a favour and stay at the hotel at the top of the hill. Phoenicia. Much nicer and no climb to get to town.

La Falconeria

Situated in the heart of the glorious capital of Malta, La Falconeria offers its guests the chance to truly experience Valletta´s unique charm and character whilst surrounded by history. Valletta’s Baroque architectural style perfectly compliments La Falconeria’s fine and detailed premises, reminiscent of the Rococo style, allowing you to blend in and become one with the city. There are two sides to this hotel. The front half of the building is hundreds of years old; walking through the entrance, one is transported from the present back to the time of the renaissance nobility, with marble flooring and artistic finishes. The latter half was destroyed in WWII, and was rebuilt in a modern style while in symmetry to the rest of the city. An outdoor courtyard is central to this hotel, providing a tranquil oasis in the open air under the warm Mediterranean sun. These two sides of the hotel along with the modern facilities and luxuries complement the historic feel and live up to the city´s best description: “a city built by gentlemen for gentlemen”.

I’m originally from Malta and occasionally like to stay in the city when visiting. I have to say that La Falconeria ticked all the boxes. The location, room (we had a room with a Maltese balcony ) and staff were all first rate. I heartily recommend it as a good base to explore Valletta and indeed the rest of the Island.

Beautiful, small friendly hotel

Reviewed By FlyingClog

On a small narrow street - Great location, close to many of the main attractions in Valetta. Marc was extremely attentive and and knowledgable about the local area and gave great advice and a nice route for running. Room was very comfortable and had everything you could need. Only complaint is that the windows had not been upgraded and we found it very noisy particularly when the garbage was being collected at 5am. Not the fault of the hotel and Marc gave a good explanation and if we were staying longer would have moved us.

Wonderful hotel for a wonderful holiday!

Reviewed By Jodie M

We stayed in Palais ale Brun for 6 nights over May/June half term and loved it. We initially moved into suit 33 - double bed, terrace balcony, walk in shower and large hot tub- which we loved! We stayed in suit 33 for three nights before moving to another suit for the remainder of our stay. This was due to a leaky shower which caused the room to become slippery. However, I still rate this hotel highly despite the small issue as they had plumbers out the same day to assess the situation and when they were told that it would not be fixable quickly reception moved us to another suit the very next morning. They were professional, quick moving in the issue and incredibly accommodating of our needs. We found Daniela on front desk especially helpful and can’t thank her enough for her hard work! This hotel also boasts a delicious breakfast; the sweet french toast was our favourite! The meals are delicious and filling with lighter options if you want to head out for a big lunch. The pool is nice big little, not big enough to swim in but perfect to cool down in if you get a little warm on one of the roof top sun loungers. We didn’t notice the terrace bar in use but we did spend most of our day out and about. Finally, the location is perfect. Only a 3-5 minute walk from the top of the high street right down to the fountain and bus links. In the opposite direction you can walk for around 10 minutes to the Sliema ferry or over to Fort St Elmo for a historical tour. We honestly can’t rave about this hotel enough. It is a true 4 star hotel and worth every penny!!!
