Still getting charged full price for cut hours

Reviewed By Sean K

I know this might be a bit long, but it’s worth the read. I booked a water vacation trip for my son and I on March 21, 2022 and our trip was scheduled for April 20-22, 2022. When I booked the trip the hours of operation for the water park showed 10am-8pm for the selected days we will be there. Three days before we are due to arrive, I called Jay Peak to add one more person to our party for the water park because my son was now bringing a friend. Jay Peak gladly took my money to add the third person and then tells me park of the water park will be closed (lazy river) and the hours of operation are now cut to 2pm-8pm. As “compensation” for this inconvenience I am told they will give us complimentary access to the water park on the day of our arrival and or they will cancel my reservation and not charge me the cancellation fee. Here’s the issue with that. The water park closes at 8pm and check-in isn’t allowed until 5pm. Also, cancelling the trip on such short notice does not give us time to find and book another trip. All I got was a “sorry.” I asked for a manager’s contact information and I was given an email address for Kim Hewitt (Director of Marketing according to her email tag line). I emailed Kim with my above frustrations and again all I get is “sorry” with the same lip service that I can have the water park the day of arrival and or cancel my reservation. After numerous emails back and forth, Kim tells me “We just aren’t going to come to an agreement”. Talking to her is like listening to a broken record. The representation from Jay Peak is that they really don’t care about the consumer. She proceeds to tell me it was my responsibility to check their site for time changes. It should also be noted that my son and I stayed here in 2019 and the water park access was complimentary on the day of arrival, but now they charge extra for it. On the day we checked in I expressed the same frustrations to the front desk. All I got was again “sorry” and my concerns were waived off. We booked a condo in the Golf and Ski neighborhood. On a positive note, the condo is plenty big for the three of us, but it’s in desperate need of some paint and new carpets. The carpets are full of stains and the walls are all marked up and you can tell when they just come by over the marks with a paint brush it makes the walls look like patchwork. I found long hairs in both of the beds which are not mine because I’m bald! They don’t even give you paper towels or Kleenex. Thankfully I had brought my own, but part of renting these places is so you don’t have to bring everything yourself. They do give you two pieces of steel wool to clean dishes though……The pots and pans are warped and the non-stick is all scraped off so those need to be replaced too. Some friends of mine also stayed here during the same time and they were not able to check in until 6pm and all they got was a “sorry.” Just be warned that if you are inconvenienced by Jay Peak, don’t expect anything else other than “sorry.” Blew my mind that Jay Peak will still charge you full price after they cut the hours and services you paid for.

Great Deal, Nice Rooms

The rooms at Burke Mountain Hotel are surprisingly nice and are a great deal! I've stayed here a few times and have always opted for the 1 or 2-bedroom suites because they come with a large living room and full kitchen. The hotel is a quick 7-minute drive from town where the main restaurants and bike trails are located, very convenient. The only downside to the hotel is that parking is very limited. There is only 1 row of parking directly next to the entrance. If those are full, you have a bit of a walk to the overflow lot. Checkout the The View pub on the 2nd or 3rd floor for a drink and a bite!

Great Place To Stay!

My husband, dog and I came to stay for the weekend. We stayed in a cabin and it was very comfortable and cozy! The property was set back from the road and right on a beautiful river. There were fire pits, horse shoes, and tether ball. I would have loved to swim at the pool but the weather wasn’t quite warm enough for me! The owners took care of the property well and I appreciated the landscaping and flowers. It was a short drive to Lake Willoughby and all the surrounding natural areas. Great stay- I will definitely be back! Thank you for a great weekend!

We had initiated a booking intending to attend a xcountry race that was canceled. A week prior to arrival and a day after booking we attempted to cancel. They were initially intransigent and obnoxious, then cryptic and noncommittal. We were subsequently charged. I would add, they had been completely unaccomodating about the booking , forcing our son into a separate room. Very bad experience that cost me. A 3rd rate hotel I wouldn’t have considered had it not been the only rooms available within 50 miles of our event.

House keeping was not their strong point since I couldn’t use the desk drawers for my clothes storage because mice had defecated and urinated throughout. I tried to add image but got an error message. After returning home one of the guys warned us to check our clothing because he found insects among his. The restaurant was quite good serving decent food in very large portions by exceptionally friendly staff.

Wonderful hosts for a weekend retreat!

Highland Lodge is a fantastic place to stay! They hosted a group of about 20 of us for the weekend and we had the whole place to ourselves. Elsa and Chad are gracious hosts (even obliging my request for a plant clipping, thank you!). The food is plentiful and delicious. The lounging spaces in the lodge are comfortable as are the bedrooms (although I really just slept in there). The beds are comfy and the view from the room was pretty spectacular. We explored the trails a bit but otherwise just hung in the lodge all weekend eating and socializing. This was the perfect location for our retreat! We’ll be back again next year.

Perfect getaway for family, friends or couples weekend!

We stayed in the King Suite for a women's getaway and could not have picked a more perfect place! The room was plenty big enough for 3 people. Beds were so comfortable - even the day/trundle bed. The space was cozy, clean, tasteful with many nice touches. The pictures and description are completely accurate. The price was very reasonable for the amenities. We had wonderful massages at the wellness center next door, a relaxing soak in the hot tub, and a delicious meal at the Bistro. We would not have changed a thing! Can't wait to come back again. It would be a great place to stay in every season of the year.
