Short holiday

We were blown away by our entire stay. The staff were efficient, friendly and there wasn’t anything they couldn’t do for us. The food was amazing - the staff remembered our preferences and the menu great. It was great to have the same game ranger each day and he was just lovely- Piet, thanks for your patience with us. You made it so memorable! Our room was beautiful and always cleaned by the time we got back from the morning drive. We especially enjoyed the boma braai when we returned from our last evening drive - such a wonderful evening. Thank you to everyone at shepherds tree - it was a great way to end our holiday.

We were planning on booking at a different lodge and when we learned they were full, we had to find an alternative close by. And man oh man, how lucky did we strike it!!!! Beginning with the gorgeous intimate atmosphere with only a few rooms and a handful of staff, it felt exclusive and personal. The staff are amazing at what they do and lovely people to spend time with. Chanè is a top guide - knowledgeable and super cool. Malcolm made sure everything was always running smoothly and we had everything we needed. But oh my word... the FOOD. I have never experience this quality of dining at a game lodge. Every single meal was carefully and skilfully crafted and just an absolute feast. Chef Riaan, you are a freaking legend!!!! Everyone else was always friendly and helpful. We had amazing sightings. The rooms are stunning. Etc etc. Thank you all for an incredible experience <3

Resort is very expensive and the timeshare units have not been maintained to standard.

Reviewed By 333bruce333

Sadly for a local South African the resort itself is very expensive, the cost for the accommodation is defiantly not value for money and the restaurant is exceptionally over priced if you paying in ZAR. As timeshare owners we generally have a rule to have at least one meal in the restaurant to support them but as we no longer get any discount and with the current pricing, it has become increasing difficult to do this. The units have not been attended to and are very neglected. A few issues we had, the shower in the main bathroom (bath/shower) was actually unusable. The shower head sprayed everywhere except into the bath and is way to high up. The shower curtain kept blowing into the bathtub and sticking to your body, cannot believe that a shower curtain is still be used! The ceiling fan was falling out and blows extremely hard. There were cobwebs in the corner of the shower. The unit had a terrible damp smell when we first arrived, almost like the carpets or couches were cleaned and then the unit was closed up. The second shower head needs replacement or a very good clean. All the cushions on the dining chairs are dirty and have stains/marks on them. There was no dishwasher powder/tablets and no dish-washing salt supplied (the machine is indicating that it needs salt). Should you not supply these items, guests should be informed. We had to have all the pillows in the unit replaced they were terrible and we were rather embarrassed that our guests staying with us where to polite to mention this and only said something after we brought the issue up. The linen is stained and marked.

Amazing Lodge, Amazing Guide, Amazing Staff, Amazing Food, Just Amazing!!!

Reviewed By Jennifer D

After about a 3 hour drive from JNB, we arrived at the lodge to the sight of the staff (Suzanna, Gloria & Andrew) gathered in the driveway waving to us with cold drinks in hand as well as warm washcloths. Our luggage was whisked away and we were led on a quick tour of the grounds and then our suite. This place is seriously amazing! So well thought out and designed. I can't even begin to describe the level of service. You'd have thought we were royalty. It's very intimate - currently only 5 suites with 2 people max to a suite. We stayed for 5 nights and it was all couples (some were honeymooners). Seems like most stay for 3-4 nights but some only 1 or 2 nights. Our suite was huge, well-designed, very comfortable and spotless. They serviced the room 3 times a day! Our days went like this: 5am wakeup knock on the door, 5:15am quick breakfast, 5:30-10am game drive, 1:30-2:30pm lunch, 3:30pm afternoon tea, 4-7pm afternoon game drive, 7:30pm dinner. The bed was the biggest king-size bed I've ever seen and every amenity from the sheets & duvet to towels to rugs to bathrobes were the most luxurious. The food was also amazing....and endless. We brought a few snacks from home and never touched a one. Every night, dinner was set up in a different location. One night out on our deck next to our private plunge pool! Another night was in their amazing wine cellar. Every night was special and unique. However it was our guide BORIS that really made our trip spectacular! He is so knowledgeable and passionate and willing to share his enthusiasm. He also could spot a herd of zebras literally a mile away while driving 40kms down a bumpy 4x4 muddy path! We had incredible up-close encounters with giraffe, zebra, kudu, impala, rhinos, buffalo, warthogs, tons of birds, a very pregnant lioness (a testament of Boris's expert tracking ability), and elephants (including spending time with the oldest elephant in the park and one almost too close encounter!) and many more. Thankfully the hippos we saw were not up-close encounters. Because the lodge is small, there are only 6 guests max in a game drive vehicle but most days we only had 4 and twice it was only the 2 of us. We spent more than 40 hours over the course of 9 drives/5 days and LOVED every minute of it. We saw 4 of the big 5. Missed seeing the 5th (leopard) but apparently one was spotted the morning we were leaving. A little sad to have missed that but wouldn't change one minute of our special time with Boris or at Lush for anything! If you are thinking about visiting, do it! You won't regret it. These folks go out of their way to make sure you are happy and well taken care of. All the staff were smiling and genuinely delighted to be assisting. We are well traveled and this was the best overall experience we've encountered so far. And it will be hard to top. Superb job Lush! Thanks for an incredible experience. We have never gone back to the same place twice but would definitely come back home to Lush. Until we meet again - Jennifer & Jeff

A Wonderful Experience

Reviewed By petertV3762SQ

What can I say, that hasn't already been said in the previous reviews. From minute 1 when we arrived and met Tshepo, Portia and JR we knew this was going to be a special visit. We had planned this trip over two years ago, the expectation levels were getting higher and higher the closer we got to arriving. If I could have written a script for our visit, it would not have been as good as the real thing was. Our room was fabulous and the initial look at that view from the balcony brought tears to our eyes. All the people at the Lodge, Johnny, Nhlania and Thebe the superb chefs who prepared some incredible food for us, Thabiso, Tammy, Simon and Ernest who looked after us exceptionally well, nothing was too much trouble and they always had a smile on their faces. Tumi the general manager is a credit to the Legacy Hotel Group. His relationships with the guests and staff was excellent, it was a pleasure to meet him and his team. And then there is Jaan- Rick. I can honestly say I do not think I have met a person with more passion and knowledge about their work than JR. He has an incredible source of knowledge about the park, the ecology and the animals, but doesn't force his knowledge onto you, it just happens in conversation. He also has a wicked sense of humour which suited us, we had some good laughs whilst out and about. The game drives were unbelievable, we had some superb sightings and think we covered every hectare of the park. I find myself looking at the photo's we took and just reliving the time we spent with JR in the park. The roads were interesting but that just added to the experience, as did the 132 steps up to the lodge. Keep up the great work team, it was an honour to meet you all.

Family fun in the sun

Reviewed By L_Zul

We parked, checked in, and went to ask for porter to assist with our bags from the car at parking, porter said I must bring the car to the reception so that they can take the bags. I got irritated a bit, because I saw them collecting other people's bags from packing when I came in. We moved our own bags  from car to the hotel lobby. Good gentlemen came to assist to move them to room 2363. We get to the room it was not made up. Now I am really getting irritated.  Luckily the gentlemen that helped with the bags went to the reception to go sort it out. They gave us room 2362. What a way to welcome paying guests. Besides the bad check in experience, it was a good stay. We actually used our rooms to sleep and freshen up as we spent most of the time outside, enjoying the last summer days. We arrived Thursday there was good crowd, weekend got really busy. Been to sun city before staying at cascades, cabanas is nicely open for the kids, but I'll use other hotels next time.
