Fantastic !!!

What an outstanding hotel!! We stayed for two nights in a 4th floor junior suite with amazing views over the lake. The room was beautiful - a perfect fusion of modern and historic. It was also huge. If I was to make any minor niggle it would be to invest in better mattresses (I like firm - but everyone is different!) - and the sofa in the lounge area wasn’t the most comfortable - but - really tiny issues! Housekeeping was excellent - the pools are brilliant and breakfast excellent. Service everywhere was superb. Location is unbeatable - and we look forward to coming back!!!

Location

Reviewed By CMLim

Stayed here for a week in January. The location of the hotel is near to the train station, but is one level down from the station. However, there is a lift for easy luggage movement between the levels between the hotel and the train station. Check-in was smooth and we had a nice chat with the owners. The hotel and the rooms were a little dated, and there was a cheesy/mouldy smell in the hallway, probably due to the old furnishings and carpeting. Having said that, the room was clean and faced the lake, so the view was awesome, especially in the evenings. One thing to note is that since the hotel is vintage, the room is operated by a key and not a card (couple of times we forgot to lock the door). We did not try the restaurant, but the bar downstairs was great for a couple of drinks before turning in for the night. Plenty of food options along the stretch of road where the hotel is located.

Good hotel for a short break- but be cautious, you won't get a 5 star experience here.

Reviewed By Mtshil

As a gift for my wife's 40th birthday we chose to go to go to Switzerland. Having booked through last minute.com we chose the Royal plaza Hotel due to its 5 star hotel rating and lake views. The hotel reception staff were welcoming, helpful and spoke English however this will be the only positive remark I can make for the staff we encountered. Having arrived early for a 3pm check-in we wanted to drop our bags and head out for lunch. Having a 3am start to our day and enduring Bristol Airport we wanted to freshen up, reception kindly(correctly) suggested we head down to the spa area to change, upon finding the receptionist for the spa the welcome we faced in the main reception quickly faded and we were met with a scoff, eye roll and general distain that reception had even suggested we get changed in the spa cloak rooms (which we're completely empty). We were made to feel apologetic, two keys were slapped down on the counter (we still don't know what these were for) and ordered to remove our shoes before entering the changing rooms. Being brits we like our tea, I realise that not every country shares our love of it but the tea selection was meek ( I suggest packing tea bags) getting more than a single English breakfast tea bag from the hotel staff is near impossible. Our room was cleaned daily however our used cups and glasses were removed and never replaced which caused a constant loop of having to request new cups everyday, this request would take up to 1 hr to fulfil and sometimes never(I'd have to trek down to reception to get the cups) This is a small issue but again not 5 star service from a supposedly 5 star hotel. The room was comfortable the bed in particular was great as was the bathroom. The amenities in the room have aged (TV, Hairdryer, phone was faulty with limited furniture in the room) the coffee machine didn't have any information/instructions so we only used it for tea and coffee sachets and weren't able to figure out how to use the pods provided.(if you want more than two pods you'll be charged). The view from the room is outstanding uninterrupted views of the lake with a balcony to enjoy them, electric balcony canopy and electric window blinds worked well. The hotel was quiet and lacked atmosphere in the restaurants, if we were to have eaten at this expensive establishment we would have been alone for our meal so instead chose to eat out. If there is a cheaper lake view hotel that isn't a 5 star and has a balcony you wouldn't know the difference.

Antique!

Reviewed By justinjalanjalan

This is an antique hotel. They have no air conditioning system and they give you a standing fan. The windows have to be opened if not the whole room would be extremely stuffy. Can you imagine if this is the summer season? They don’t even have a decent chair for you to rest on in the room! The chair that they provided had a metal backing and its so stiff and uncomfortable! The rooms have to be locked using a old school key and they give such a HEAVY and BIG keychain! And its so hard to lock the door, you wonder if the lock is really working or not? And they have 2 small lifts that can accomodate at most 2 x 28 inch luggages. Breakfast is the usual standard Western fare, bread, ham, cheese, bacon, scrambled egg. There is no live egg station. The good part is that it is in an ideal location, near to the restaurants and shopping belt and some room have a great view, facing the Lake. Else, nothing is good about this hotel. Although the rooms and furniture were extremely dated, I must say that the hotel is very clean, which is something I appreciate.

Quite nice, but nothing special

Reviewed By NathalieHowe

The hotel was pretty standard. Everything was nice and ok for value, but it’s nothing special or outstanding. We only ate breakfast there and again, it was ok, not bad and not amazing. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The location is great and walking distance from everything. The walk to the center along the lake is very nice.
