Last minute visit to Montagu to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and a fantastic weekend it turned out to be! Very accommodating staff, lovely rooms, the bed was incredibly comfortable. The main house is beautifully decorated and room catered for every need, so well prepared. The breakfast was one of the best I've had at a guest house/hotel. And the of course there is the town of Montague - with stunning restaurants right there in the same road, this hotel is perfectly situated! We'll be back.

Amazing!

My wife and I spent the most memorable two nights here. The tented lodges were amazing, under a canvas roof but with five star luxury inside. We particularly liked our own private and secluded deck with hot tub. The food was exceptional, both buffet and hot plated breakfast, three course lunch and dinner all served to our table. The drives were amazing and although we often had to travel to locate some of the big five (especially the lions) it was all the more special the more special when you found them in their vast natural habitat. Chris our guide was great. Lots if interesting information and made a brilliant barman when serving our sundowner drinks. We would thoroughly recommend this game reserve. The attention to detail, service and friendliness are first class but also the ethical conservation programme makes this safari very special.

Montagu Vines Guesthouse

Montagu Vines is situated in the historic conservation area of Montagu. The main farmhouse was built between 1900 and 1910 and reflects the early Victorian influenced Karoo style farmhouse of that period. The 6 Garden rooms and 2 courtyard rooms overlook the newly planted Olive Grove and compliment the stately main house. Following the damage to the vines from the floods of November 2008 the vineyard was removed in 2010 and replanted with an olive grove. We offer our guests a taste of old- fashioned comfort and luxury in the town of Montagu on the world famous "Route 62". You can relax in the splash pool set in the tranquil gardens with magnificent old oak and milkwood trees. Alternatively, you could lounge on the lawns enjoying the glorious views of the surrounding mountains whilst sipping a glass of local wine. Montagu Vines Guesthouse is just a stroll away from the centre of Montagu with its amenities that cater for all tastes and interests. There are restaurants, bistros, historic churches and tranquil gardens for the visitor to enjoy. Montagu Vines guesthouse is the perfect place for those intimate weekends, birthdays, and anniversaries or as a stopover whilst discovering "Route 62" and all it has to offer. You may be lucky and see the "resident" owls perched in the old oak tree or meet one of the big tortoises in the olive grove or surrounding areas that visit from the adjacent nature reserve.

We had a fantastic time at In Abundance Guest House! The room was not only beautiful but also extremely clean and neat with the utmost attention given to detail in the way it was furnished and equipped. The rooms are also private, quiet and surrounded by a beautiful garden. The very warm and friendly hosts were always available and gave some great advice about the wonderful town of Montagu and surrounds, things to do, restaurants to eat etc. They would also make reservations for us and regularly check in to find out if we needed anything. I cannot fault our stay there on any level and highly recommend the place. I can’t wait to go back.

Truly awful

Reviewed By Knyzna1

Every memorable moment of our recent trip to the Langeberg region took place away from Montagu Springs, which is not usually to be expected when booking a stay in a family resort. As is made clear by innumerable reviews on this platform and others, the interiors of the chalets are too dated and shabby to overlook. Given that we stayed in one of the higher-end units, I shudder to think what anyone bamboozled into booking a trailer-park-style Plettenberg chalet has to put up with. The views from our chalet were fantastic, albeit somewhat spoilt by the incessant loud music blaring from guests' patios below. The hot springs were closed for renovations when we visited, so we were limited to the use of one overcrowded heated pool, which came at an additional cost over and above the already exorbitant nightly rate. While the staff were certainly friendly, this unfortunately couldn't make up for the overwhelming sense that the establishment has been resting on its laurels a decade too long. What better proof could there be of a resort stuck in the previous century than the fact that our unit contained a full set of fish knives, while WiFi was capped at a gigabyte per device? I'm sorry to say that the face of tourism has changed dramatically since this spot's heyday, and it's only a matter of time before Montagu Springs is eventually left in the dust.

Everything was delightful

This is a new “ cottage” converted within an old barn. A spacious bedroom upstairs and living room with kitchenette downstairs. A private outside space in shade for eating and a decked space with private dipping pool. Lovely views across farmland to hills. Beautiful interior design and furnishings. Every small detail was perfect.Very comfortable bed and quiet a/c in bedroom. An additional outside shower and toilet. Breakfast is served at any time in the morning with a very wide choice of excellent food. The restaurant is excellent - only stays open until 4pm. The staff are very friendly and efficient. The owner very attentive but very respectful of our privacy. A lovely garden to sit in. A small playground for children. We came for one night - and stayed for 3! I can’t recommend it highly enough if you are on Route 62. And route 62 is definitely worth a trip- stunning scenery.

An Enjoyable Stay

Reviewed By stephen V

Pleasant enough old style hotel in the Art Deco style. Management and staff were friendly and welcoming and the rooms were okay. The furnishings are genuine period pieces, many of which could do with some attention to the woodwork - especially the soft furnishings. Value is not the best. Our rooms had zero DSTV channels on offer and they only provide liquid soap and shampoo. Beds on the hard side which will suit some but obviously not all. The breakfast offering consisted of a small choice, all of which for a supposed 4 star establishment is below par in our opinion. We nevertheless still had an enjoyable stay.
