Reviewed By yellowfishzaSpent a wonderful family weekend at Schaefer’s Halt. Stayed in ‘The Cozy’ a quaint cottage close to the farm house. Gardens are tranquil and well tended. The 3 dams are well stocked with trout so the fishing was very good. Will definitely go back again.

Reviewed By michel t... which was really good, this place gets two stars. For the rest, something to forget soon. I get it, it is not a 5 star hotel, but still you can make it a lot better than it was. Observations: strange reception, immediate comment my creditcard did not pass.. I book 60 rooms a year, and never heard this, but anyway, if at all, first welcome people. The cd player played a cd of 40 years ago, first album of Smokie, for 4 hours, and the next morning at breakfast again. Spotify exists! No shades in the rooms, so it gets light at 5 am. No airco, nobody in dining room when we came for dining, no white wine that was cold, only a bottle that was 30 degrees. Really? A dog, or actually two, that were constantly barking, no pillows at the beds around the pool, a pool itself that looked really dirty. Very noisy rooms, you could hear the owner talk downstairs all the time, bad dinner, nothing attractive for breakfast. Let me stop here So, advise, skip this one. Advise to the owners, really easy to do better than this. Most of it will cost nearly nothing to improve.

Longtom Farm Guesthouse is situated in the picturesque Mpumalanga – only three hours from Johannesburg. We are ideally situated close to popular attractions such as Dullstroom, Sabie, Graskop, Pilgrim's Rest, God's Window and en route to the Kruger National Park. Lydenburg is also centrally located to the mining activities in the area and the Guesthouse is situated only 3km outside of town – offering peace and quiet for the stressed-out guest! The farm borders on two rivers – the Sterkspruit and the Swartspruit. This presents the opportunity to take a leisurely walk down to where they flow together. These two rivers also attract Fish Eagles and plenty of other birdlife.
A super place
Reviewed By Rob DI was a late arrival, having travelled 14 hours during the day and was tired. The owner was absolutely wonderful, made me most welcome and ensured that, despite the power load shedding in the town, I was sorted and relaxed. A most comfortable bed, fully equipped room and a quiet night recharged me and set me up for the next day. Absolutely highly recommended. The council has failed to repair the roads throughout the town, and this cannot be a negative for this wonderful establishment. Dedpite this, any vehicle can still get to and from the first house.

Wonderful place for nature-lovers
Reviewed By fokkogOur family spent 3 nights here and enjoyed it tremendously. Extremely friendly hosts and their 2 dogs are also great to be with. It's off-the-grid but it's by no means primitive, on the contrary: it's very well equipped. We make a few beautiful short walks in the immediate surroundings and made a daytrip to Kruger Park, quite OK if you start early. Hope to be back some day.

Winter trip away in the mountains
Reviewed By SueD2404We had the best time at this beautiful,magical spot. We stayed 3 nights and ate too much of Vicki’s delicious meals. My husband taught our 16 year old to fish in crystal clear dams and rivers. Completely unspoilt and what South Africa is all about. Teen absolutely loved it as much as we did. We saw warthog drinking in the dam and we loved the horses on the front lawn. A magical time away from covid and the real world. We will be back soon.
