Karee & Wild Olive Guest Lodge

Nestled on the southern slopes of the Magaliesberg Mountain range is the predominantly farming area of Hekpoort, only a short drive from Hartbeespoort Dam and accessible from the south via a pass through the Daspoortrand, hence the name Hekpoort (meaning ‘gate’ in Afrikaans). Hekpoort is one of the closest areas to the Magaliesberg, the looming richly wooded mountain range with a flat top of quartzite rock - the playground of Jo’burgers wanting to get away from the city and much loved by hikers, mountain bikers and rock climbers alike. The area is incredibly beautiful and the almost consistently blue skies and typically sunny Gauteng weather mean that this part of the world is ideal all year round, so experience the best in Magaliesberg, by staying at one of the more luxurious Hekpoort accommodation options. The Karee & Wild Olive Guest Lodge offers luxurious accommodation on a working game farm where visitors can immerse themselves in nature by walking amongst our game such as sable antelope, kudu, nyala, springbok to name but a few, and not to mention the bird species, or having a breakfast picnic at one of the dams on the farm. We are perfectly situated and in close proximity of a range of wedding venues, leisure activities such as clay pigeon shooting, spas, yoga studios and romantic hot air balloon flights, to name but a few.

Stunning Mid week break

Reviewed By OwenS572

I went for a quiet midweek break and also to experience the bush, having been away from Africa for close to 2 years, and my was this an excellent break, and great value for money. The lodge was clean with a very nice layout, the surroundings were peaceful with a good view of the Magaliesburg Mountains, and the wild animals on the farm, with the Bush feel, and the sounds of the birds, its so nice to hear this when you wake up in the morning. Many thanks for your wonderful hospitality Ilze, this is greatly appreciated, you made me feel welcome from the minute I arrived until I left. I highly recommended for a quiet and blissful getaway either midweek or for a weekend break, and I will be back.

Steynshoop Mountain Lodge

Steynshoop Mountain Lodge is a luxury house on a private estate, beautifully situated on an elevated site in the scenic Magaliesberg valley near Hekpoort. It has superb views of the magnificent mountain range, cliffs and bush surroundings of the Magaliesberg Nature Reserve, of which it forms part. The lodge's bedrooms are all en-suite and luxuriously appointed with air-conditioning, DSTV and DVD players. Many of our guests comment that it has a uniquely “Out of Africa” feel. It is an exclusive and intimate guest lodge with understated, elegant interiors. The lodge, an hour’s drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria, falls within a world heritage site. Guests have access to a kilometre of the magnificent mountain range on the estate, for walks and hiking. Arrangements may be made for longer hikes over the adjoining extensive area owned by the Mountain Club of South Africa which includes famous sites such as the Castle Gorge (provided that they are accompanied by a guide from the lodge). The entire estate is situated within the proclaimed Magaliesberg Nature Reserve. It is full of natural bush vegetation, including thousands of wild protea trees, and has extensive natural game including bush buck, nyala, mountain reedbuck, warthogs, baboons, monkeys and leopard. Birdlife is extensive. There are frequent sightings of eagles and vultures from a nearby cliff colony. Jackal and hyena cries, baboon barks and sounds of the surrounding wildlife are prolific. Steynshoop Mountain Lodge provides the ideal break from city life and stress - drift off to the sounds of the African bush and awaken to a chorus of birds. Enjoy a quiet drink and look out for Nyala, bushbuck or mountain reedbuck coming to drink at the game waterhole, overlooked by the gazebo. If you wish to discover totally private tranquillity with superior service Steynshoop Mountain Lodge is a rare find.

TRUE PEACE AND TRANQUILITY

Reviewed By BothmaD

Nowhere in South Africa there is a place like Steynshoop Mountain and Valley Lodge. True peace and tranquility is the thought that comes to mind. This place is out of this world. So unique and beautiful and we couldn't have made a better choice for our wedding destination. Scenic views, amazing accommodation and outstanding venue! We can truly say that we receive the most professional service from this venue. This was the best decision ever made. Except for the 5 star place Steynshoop is, the manager and the venue wedding coordinator , Pieter and Hanneli, was an absolute pleasure and dream to work with. We received top quality service, so much kindness, help, understanding during Covid, nothing was ever to much work or not possible and they went out of our way to accommodate us in every way! For that we can truly thank Hanneli and Pieter for the most amazing day, it was out of this world, so beautiful and an absolute fairytale! I would definitely recommend Steynshoop Mountain and Valley Lodge!

This was our 2nd stay and as before we were made to feel welcome on arrival and the check-in was handled very smoothly. Our accommodation (4 rooms) was well set up and really comfortable. The chef, Raymond, excelled himself providing great food for 2 vegan, 2 halaal and 2 'normal' guests. As before, the ever friendly Washington looked after all our needs very efficiently. Well done.

Fantastic Easter Getaway

Reviewed By Katrin S

We had a great stay at Votadini Cottages over Easter 2022. We were looking for a peaceful getaway with our two dogs and we absolutely loved it. The cottage was neat and clean and spacious enough for our needs. Our dogs were comfortable too and enjoyed zooting about in the fenced off area. There is plenty of space to walk about and the cottages are spaced well apart, so you do not even realise that there are other people staying on the property. It is also tick free, which gives great peace of mind. There is so much to do in the area, we went hiking and cycling and to local restaurants. The cottage does have a fully equipped kitchen which is perfectly adequate for two people for a weekend. The hosts are super and really made sure that we were comfortable throughout our stay.

Make sure breakfast is hot coz we had a very cold food.missed the romantic dinner bcz of fear of sleeping over again. Also fix the shower cap and proper cleaning in there. The bedding was comfortable and very clean thanks for that. Thanks to everyone that was very friendly to us and made sure we felt like home during our short stay ..
