Very poor and overpriced ‘resort’
Reviewed By ZJRobinsonWe stayed at Aso Farmland in October for one night and would not recommend it to other travellers. The layout of the hotel domes feels like you are staying in some sort of dystopian suburb. The reception, parking and hotel rooms are all very far apart and require a lot of walking in a boring asphalt jungle to get between various locations. The room itself smelt damp and, while spacious, was just not very pleasant to stay in. Food at the buffet was poor compared to the standard in Japan. The onsen was decent and is the only reason we would give this place more than 1 star. The check in opens late and most of the farmland activities closed early the day we arrived. They also only give a 10% discount on activities to hotel guests. Seeing as this place was several hundred dollars (AUD) for a night this was definitely not worthwhile. Stay elsewhere.

Reviewed By MajorchuRooms were a bit cramped and no amenities. The bed was hard as rock and it would have been appreciated if there were an extra pillow. Set the temperature at 20 C but the room was still hot and stuffy so had to open the window for a while. The dinner was ok but not spectacular. We had the Shabu Shabu but the beef quality was so so and lacking the sesame sauce. Overall just average.

Exquisite ryokan with private onsen
Reviewed By Elizabeth TA very cosy ryokan just beside the river and close to the centre of Kurogawa old town. We stayed in room 105 which was at the end of the ryokan and very quiet and private. They have a public and family onsen. Need to reserve the 50-min private onsen in advance and it is open until very late. The public onsen opens at 6.30am so if you are there early, you will have the whole onsen overlooking a bamboo forest all by yourself. Very therapeutic. Fantastic breakfast too.

Reviewed By benjaminl830It was my second time to Aso district. This time my wife and I spent some quality time to Miyama Sanso. It is a beautiful place for chill and relax. The staff are super friendly and nice. I strongly recommend visitors to go and feel their Zen Environment.

Good service and pleasant stay
Reviewed By Stewart CIt is not difficult to find from google map, driving there. The room itself was good although the common areas do need to be refurbished. Dinner was at a separate building (?separate restaurant) and the onsen associated with the restaurant was larger but without much amenities, and more public. The outdoor onsen there was not very hot. The smaller onsen at the hotel was better and not crowded when we used it. We enjoyed the horse-meat sashimi dinner.

This is a traditional Japanese style hotel (Ryokan), and we stayed in a separate house with private onsen bath room, living room and bedroom, as well as a small terrace. The room was excellent. Meals were sent to your room by friendly staff. Food was fantastic.

Very nice visit, but no stars due to weather
Reviewed By jessicapuiOur group of 3 were the only ones staying that night We had the evening tour with the resident Astronomist, who was very nice, very good at english, and his enthusiasm showed in his tour. The tour ward completely in english, i guess it was because all 3 of us are foreigners. The onsen ( stone hot spring) was nice but quite small, maximum 2-3 people at a time, and requires booking if there were more guests. But since it was just us 3 we could use it freely Unfortunately it was super cloudy on the night we visited, and so we were able to see much with the telescope. However the resident astronomist showed us a lot of interesting things in the planetarium and the amazing photos that he took of the night sky Food is pretty good. Staff were really helpful arranging for our transport ( we didnt drive)

The place to relax and enjoy Japan
Reviewed By PYBchThis is the second time we go to this outstanding Ryokan and it was another amazing experience. Its location within the centre of Kurosawa is perfect and allows you to walk to the other onset. There is poking available if yo come by car. The rooms are typical Japanese style with the comfort you need as well as privacy. The onsen is magnificent, next to the river and you can relax in the bath while listening to the water fall. What makes also this place unique is the delicious dinner and breakfast, where every details and taste are amazing. And if there is something you don't like, the ryokan will send you an email before to ask your preference. Finally, the manager was so nice and made us feel valued. She remembered us from the year before, helped us find great places and explained the best way to make tea after giving us as gift one of the finest tea from Kyushu. we will come back for sure!

Reviewed By kwsgHaven't been so pleasantly surprised by a hotel in quite a while. When we arrived and stopped our car at the lobby to unload our luggage, the check-in staff was on the phone, but she quickly ended the call and rushed out with a colleague to help with our bags. She spoke impeccable English, had a great sense of humour, and yet maintained an exceptional level of Japanese decorum -- e.g. when she walked us to our room, she ushered us into the lift, pressed the button for us, then quickly excused herself so that we could have the lift all to ourselves (she took the stairs). When the lift doors opened, she was standing right outside. Sadly we didn't catch her name, but kudos if you are reading this! We quickly realised that we lucked out, being the only guests at the hotel that night: the car park was empty, the onsen baths were empty, the restaurant was empty. That was when we met our waitress Miyazaki-san, who couldn't speak English, but patiently conversed with us in simple Japanese (we could understand a little bit of the language), explaining the food and, after dinner, engaging in a 30-minute chit chat. Lovely lady. The room, a Superior Western-style room with open-air bath, was massive, and had a private rotenburo that looked out into a beautiful Japanese garden and Mount Aso as the backdrop. Here in the foothills, even in spring the nighttime temperature dipped into the single digits, so it was very nice to enjoy the hot bath with the crisp cold air. Regret that we only stayed one night.

Reviewed By Giorgio BCi è stato suggerito da amici giapponesi. E' un ryokan piccolino ma molto carino e ben attrezzato. Come sempre, in Giappone, il servizio è molto attento e gentilissimo. La stanza aveva dimesioni normali per un ryokan. Era bella e pulita. Insomma un posto da raccomandare.
