A truly wonderful hotel and spa experience. The facilities are wonderful as are the staff, the food and the cleanliness. Our room was lovely and we hope to get that room again next time we go. Beautiful grounds and gardens too.

Not so good

Positives first: beautiful refurbished restaurant, looking very good. Really lovely staff. Nice atmosphere. Areas for improvement : very slow service for breakfast despite it being very quiet. Hot drinks brought straight away but as the breakfast items took 40 minutes, the drinks are cold when the food comes. Poached eggs on toast tasted strongly of lemon so I was unable to eat them. Replaced with scrambled eggs on toast. Eggs full of liquid put on top of dry toast, bread made mushy from the water and cant be buttered. Previous poached eggs the same, water from the eggs making the toast wet, very unappealing. Unfortunately this occasion was a poor show and therefore I wouldn't return there for breakfast. Sorry hopefully a one off but I think a little thought / care on how to serve food really goes a long way.

2 star hotel with a 4 star dining room

Reviewed By steviec1211

This hotel is in need of some TLC. The public areas are ok but the rooms are in need of major refurbishment. Lack of maintenance is apparent with plumbing issues, lights not working and mould in bathrooms. There is a superb dining room with wood panelling from the Olympus ship. They seem to exist on tour groups and are rigid with rules on when you have to be down for breakfast or dinner. They also seem to be permanently short staffed although the few that are there are helpful and hard working. Food is ok but does not do the room justice. Overall disappointing and not worth the price charged.

Little break away

My husband and I had an overnight stay in the Lookout. The non contact check in was very easy and passing by staff were extremely helpful. The room itself was absolutely beautiful, couldn’t fault it. The bed was very comfy! Despite the building work happening outside we couldn’t hear a thing. The breakfast staff were fab and very happy to help with dietary requirements. Couldn’t fault the breakfast. Can’t wait to come back and stay!

James Bond experience at the Bondgate!

Excellent experience here, v little to criticise. I felt safe, it was quiet,I was really comfortable, slept brilliantly, immaculately clean. Everything I needed including chocs and toffees :-) Theparking is not for the faint hearted! There are 2 ways in - one through the archway next to the Plough or a little further day there is a narrow entrance which has quite a narrow corner, but is manageable - just ! But there are plenty of other Carparks if you are not feeling brave !

A most welcoming host

Reviewed By Katherine L

Darren played the perfect host for the whole of our stay. His jovial, relaxed and lighthearted manner made it an extremely plesant stay. The rooms were all very clean, tidy and well maintained. The included breakfast was comprehensive and Darren made sure there was everything we needed - a full English, cereals, fruit, yoghurt, etc. The location was a short walk from the centre. This b&b in the lovely Alnwick is thoroughly recommended.

The Whittling House

What’s not to like?

Reviewed By BVMum

This was our first stay at Whittling House but we will certainly go again. Alnmouth is such a beautiful place, and the hotel is on Northumberland Street - you could hardly get a more central location. The staff are really friendly and efficient, and the food excellent. We didn’t realise how popular the restaurant was, as we stayed on a Sunday night, but they managed to get us a table despite being fully booked. We had our dog with us and she was made very welcome. We had Room 2, at the top of the house, which had its own sitting room and was very clean and well-equipped with tea and coffee plus home made biscuits.

Backpackers of a certain age

We were walking along the northeast coast for 4 days starting off in Alnwick and Embleton was our first overnight stay. The Bluebell Inn is a lovely little hotel run by the amazing Anna who couldn't do enough for us during our stay. The continental breakfast the next morning would put some big hotels to shame with the choice available as would the delicious evening meal the night before. A very friendly hotel which we will definitely be returning to soon.

A lovely few days stay

Reviewed By mazzie44

My partner and I have just returned from a 3 night stay. Check in was easy and the door codes were sent out before hand via email. The room was comfortable and we slept well. The owners left an information book in the drawer about places to visit and where we could eat breakfast in the mornings. The biscuits and chocolates that were left in the room were a lovely touch. We would definitely return here again.
