The Hotel des Alpes is a family-run hotel in Airolo. It offers basic accommodation and is located directly opposite the train station, making it easy to reach by public transport. Reviewed By poreWe had lunch on the terrace of the restaurant. The meals were excellent and the prices moderate. The only negative thing was that the service was very slow especially before order taking and for the bill. We do not know about the rooms. pore

Reviewed By Reiseabenteuer_blogWe stopped for lunch on a sunny Saturday. We were there at 2pm, when the main lunch rush hour was already over. However, it was very slow, and except one waiter who apologised, rather an unfriendly environment. Our order had been messed up aka had disappeared for "technical reasons". They noticed after the guests at the table next to ours complained vehemently that they'd been waiting 45 min. They came up to us (we'd been waiting at that time about 30min) and apologised, asked if we still wanted it, and that it would take another 15 min, despite it being french fries and the daily menu (which actually should be ready to go anytime). It took another 20minutes, my 3 year old was at that time REALLY hungry, until it came. Plus, it didn't come as ordered altogether but we had to ask another time for the french fries. Meal was reheated, noticeable above all at the pasta. Another 10 minutes of wait until we were allowed to pay. Another apology. We noticed other guests waiting 10min for dressing for the salad, cutlery, or other items. We paid about 80 CHF for a mediocre meal and a lot of waiting time. Not a coffee offered. I understand after Covid-19 lay-offs that it's hard to find good staff again, but this was really one of the worst experiences in a long time. We will not visit again.

Practical place to stay for one night
Reviewed By Peter JWe stopped on the way as we were in the area for business. Lucky to get a room on a busy summer evening. The owner was very friendly and welcomed us personally. The rooms offer the minimum and are very spartan. No decoration whatsoever. Bath very dark - only two spots over mirror (no ceiling light) and if one is broken, then .... Breakfast very minimalist/basic and arranged without "love". Otherwise staff is OK.

Das Frühstück reichhaltig, es gab leckeres Brot und die Bedienung war sehr nett. Einzig die Matratzen waren für unseren Geschmack zu hart. Ein außergewöhnlicher Ort, den man auf jeden Fall erlebt haben sollte. Und Ausgangspunkt für tolle Wanderungen.

Reviewed By Joop vThe place is managed by young people with a passion for hospitality, and a good feeling for service, which is felt in all details. The rooms and bathrooms are so clean and well-maintained that it is very easy to feel at home at once. The best description would perhaps be: "no nonsense": the prices are fair, and everything you need is available. We haven't tried the restaurant yet, but we've understood that the dishes are prepared with local products, such as cows raised by local farmers. The personnel of this place clearly proves that it can be done: bring new life to an old and wonderful village.

Reviewed By Gianluv845 is the best: Place 4 (10 minutes far from Airolo by car, with a beautiful view on the valley) Service 5 (great welcoming) Cleaning 5 Quietness 4 (just cows bells in the morning, really nice if you like) Breakfast 3 (simple but good) Bedroom 4 (bed was confortable and bathroom very big) Price 3 (95 euro for one night with shared bathroom in Airolo is a little expensive to me, even if it's Swiss) Parking free just outside No sure if elevator was there (ask the structure in case) What I loved most of this place is the proprietary, Bruna, a really nice lady that makes you feel like home, interesting and with many stories to talk about. The room was nice and comfortable with a beautiful view on the valley, bathroom is shared, big and clean. It's a beautiful place if you like trekking in summer, all mountains around. Recommended for some day into the wild.
