Well worth a visit

Reviewed By Peter b

My wife and I climbed the 199 steps and noticed the cafe sign pointing into the Youth Hostel. They offer a good choice of snacks and home cakes with hot drinks and if you're lucky a view down over Whitby. The staff were pleasant and welcoming and the cafe was clean. It's a long time since I was hosteling but it's great to see the new side to them. Wheelchair accessible. Well worth a visit.

Stayed here for 2 nights with a hen party of 16. Beautiful building, easy to find and within walking distance of city centre. Staff were so helpful and friendly. All very clean rooms. Bar area, large dining room and kitchen and separate lounge area with TV. We had 11 beds in large 18 bedded room which was all sets of bunk beds with one bathroom in room. (Other toilets/bathroom available off corridor) Great if you don't mind sharing with strangers. We also had a 5 bedded room which had 2 sets of bunks and a single bed and also had an ensuite shower/toilet. Plenty of kitchen equipment available for your use and you can store your own food in the large fridges if you want to self cater. Staff were very friendly, helpful and welcoming. Would definitely recommend as a great base especially of there are a group of you together. (smaller rooms are also available).

My Experience at Safestay Micklegate, York .Red Flag!!!

I was requested to leave these premises. I have autism spectrum disorder .They physically renoved my food from the dining area to the lounge because they had hired the dining area to a school, surely the facility of the dining area was already paid for myself as a communal area. They showed disability discrimination towards myself. I was not the only one who complained and was asked to leave. It was really cold in the hostel the Governments regulations state that temperature should be maintained at 21 ° I downloaded a galaxy sensor app and the temperature recorded was 14.9° I also complained regarding the temperature. I have contacted York Council Trading Standards, and I am contacting the Health and Safety Executive. This building is a Victorian Era building, unfortunately the living conditions presently are in the Victorian Era at this Hostel.

Russell Scott Hostel

We at Russell Scott Hostels also known as R S Hostels offer our guests safe, secure, clean, spacious budget accommodation being the only backpackers hostel in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. We are not profit driven. With you having a great time in Sheffield and staying with us, is all we wish for! We do not believe in making extra from you, your basic needs are all taken care of - internet access, washing machine, bed linen, breakfast all inclusive in the room/bed rate.We believe that small is beautiful. We pride ourselves in offering cheap accommodation by which we don't mean over crowding the place or reduce the facilities we offer. For example our dorms have single beds in them and the maximum no of people in our dorm is six even though the room could easily accommodate eight people. Knowing what it is like to be a backpacker/traveller and knowing little needs go a long way, we decided to provide value for money accommodation with no compromise whatsoever on the quality or most of the perks that you would enjoy in a star hotel for one third of the price.

Stayed here for one night. Great location in a residential area just a 20 minute walk from city centre. Staff were very friendly, gave me a quick tour of the hostel on arrival and were happy to help with any questions. Shared bathrooms are clean and there is a full kitchen with free breakfast, tea and coffee which is a nice touch. Good free wifi too. Other guests were quite noisy at night especially as my room was near the kitchen so this wasn't ideal. The heating wasn't on in my room which made it quite cold, however warm bedding was provided so it wasn't too bad. I stayed in a single room and it was spacious with a wardrobe, desk and bedside table. Overall a satisfactory visit, but I wouldn't rush back.

This is a fantastic place to stay for families or for a weekend exploring the North Yorkshire coast. Beds were comfortable and the facilities were immaculately clean. Staff are friendly and the breakfast was good. Our room was amazing with a superb timeless view over the bay. Only negatives were; had to go through 3 key swipe doors just to go to the toilet, metal bunk beds are incredibly squeaky, and I was made to pay for a kids breakfast when it should have been free with an adult full English. Otherwise highly recommended, makes me wonder why we live in a town!
