This was a great way to relieve our designated driver for a day and so glad we opted for this tour. A lovely little hike to see Pacaya Volcano close-up, we were the first party to ascend that day and glimpsed some lava. The views from the top were well worth it and taking El Arenal route on the descent was an adventure. After the hike, the Kawilal Spa was just the ticket! We even had the whole area to ourselves due to the pandemic, so all felt very safe. The smoothie and lunch there were also very delicious. Could have done with a tad more direction at times, but all part of the fun!

Elmer was without question the best tour guide I have ever had for a tour of ancient ruins. I have been to Machu Picchu, Angkor Wat and several other sites around the world with guides but Elmers knowledge of Tikal surpassed them all. His English is incredible too, being very easy to understand. If you are touring Tikal I highly recommend his services.

A memorable experience in the Yaxha National Park. Experience the Sunset in the top of an Mayan Temple! Yaxha (or  Yaxhá in Spanish orthography) is a Mesoamerican archaeological site in the northeast of the Petén Basin region, and a former ceremonial centre and city of the pre-Columbian Maya civilization. Yaxha was the third largest city in the region and experienced its maximum power during the Early Classic period (c. AD 250–600). The city was located on a ridge overlooking Lake Yaxha. The name of the city derives from the Mayan for "blue-green water"; it is a notable survival of a Classic period place-name into the modern day. The Yaxha kingdom is estimated to have covered an area of 237 square kilometres (92 sq mi) and to have had a peak population of 42,000 in the Late Classic period of Mesoamerican chronology.

We stayed at Barcelo hotel in Guatemala City. We took hotel taxi and did the Chichicastenango market and Lake Atitlan in one day. It is a long drive but there is plenty to watch and see on the way. We loved the people, colors, hand made artifacts and food in the market. We stopped at Santo Tomas Church in the market. We then drove down to Solola, saw local men in wonderful costumes on the way. We took a trip over lake Atitlan with public boat. Lake Atitlan surrounded by mountains and volcanoes has seen generations of mayans and local tribes live, grow and evolve, like a mother providing to her children. As a bonus our driver Mario took us to Iximché ruins on the way back from the lake. We left around 6:45 and we were back by 7pm in our hotel. We absolutely enjoyed the trip, these places show soul of Guatemala, do not miss them. Highly recommend our driver Mario Xicará - 502 5853 3071, taxi # 796 in Zone 9 of Guatemala City (marioxicará[email protected]). He is reliable and trustworthy.
