Old hillside fort built in 1770.
Well worth a visit. There is a small restaurant there that serves drinks and nice Mexican food. Tables overlooking the bay. It’s a lovely place for Comida. Small but the people were very welcoming and the food was good. Charming. The chairs were all brightly painted with Mexican scenes.

Restored movie theater in downtown Mazatlan.
Over the last 24 years of going to Mazatlan we have always trued to see performances at Angela Paralta. We have never been disappointed. They bring in great talents and interesting performances. They have everything from traditional Mexican shows to opera, ballet, classical music, etc. Most are in English during tourist season. The prices are very reasonable. Go on a Friday or Sat. night and also enjoy Plaza Machado (1/2 block away) and its outdoor vendors and restaurants.

Step into another time and world by visiting the Altavista Petroglyph Site about 30 minutes outside of Chacala. The carvings and rock formations speak of ancient civilization and sacred ritual. It was a blissful experience.

This is a very much overlooked and little known acheological site on the coast of the Sea of Cortez about 30 miles north of the city of Mazatlan. This site contains some of the best preserved Indian rock carvings in Mexico. The site has recently undergone substantial improvement courtesy of the government of Sinaloa and is now very user friendly and easy to access. It lies about 3 miles off the international highway on the coast and has an information center and well laid out paths to the carvings. It also is situated next to a marvelous beach for those inclined to sunbath or simply enjoy the waters. A google search on "Las Labradas Sinaloa" will provide additional information in both English and Spanish. This site is growing in popularity is is the location for a yearly spring equinox celebration that is also becoming increasingly popular.

Quaint little village with cobblestone streets, colonial buildings and charming square.
If one is looking for glitzy floor shows and blaring music, Copala is not for you. It is a lovely four century old colonial village with a fascinating history of gold and silver -- one can check out the stone house where gold was stored before brought in wagon loads to Mazatlan. Standing near the church, overlooking the jungle, the sound of song birds and rooster sooths even the most anxous soul. The church is a quiet but beautiful place to meditate and consider the good fortune that brought you to this place. If nothing else the Bougainvillea is a sight that will brighten one's spirits. The restaurant serves food that is fabulous! Don't miss the wonderful pie!

The former estate of "El Chorrillo" is a beautiful sixteenth-century historic site located in the northern part of the city of Taxco de Alarcon. The building, which was owned by the Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortez, is considered one of the first profit mining estates in America. The process of separation of silver by using large amounts of water as a driving power lasted for over 400 years.

Built in 1892, this fort honors the March 31, 1864 heroic efforts of a local garrison, and now serves as a maritime office.
