10 Historic Sites in Canary Islands That You Shouldn't Miss

January 24, 2022 Roseanne Arnett

The sun-drenched Canary Islands lie close to North Africa and have an exotic flavor of their own. Hundreds of volcanoes, rolling sand dunes, rich forests and rugged cliffs dapple these seven Atlantic gems. Catch a ferry to Lanzarote. Ride a camel through volcanic Timanfaya National Park. Take on Tenerife, home of Mount Teide, Spain's tallest peak. Romp Grand Canary's beaches or hike La Gomera's Garajonay National Park. More adventures await on tiny El Hierro, verdant La Palma and peaceful Fuerteventura.

I love this place so much, already visited twice. I especially love the garden filled with fruit trees and seeing the old machines that were used for works with the tomatoes. It's a must see in Adeje, a little trip in history. The guide and the shop keeper are lovely; actually I went a little crazy in the souvenir shop.

Firstly if you are visiting by car make sure tou parl legally and pay in metered areas. I saw two vehicles being towed away near the church. Arucas is a little village inland, accessed from the north, and it has a huge church of cathedral-sized proportions. Inside you can appreciate the height and size. there are beautiful stained gl;ass windows .

Beautiful basilica, albeit only about 80 years old, but the story and history of the statue and its interaction with the Guanches (the original indigenous people of the Canaries) is fascinating. A fine line of modern statues adorns the sea wall.
