10 Gear Rentals in Lake Tahoe (Nevada) That You Shouldn't Miss

July 3, 2021 Joeann Galban

With the bluest of blue water and the greenest of green surrounding forest, Lake Tahoe, quite simply, transfixes. From the early Indians to authors such as Mark Twain, folks have tried to capture the beauty and mystique of the lake with nicknames like "Big Blue" and "Grasshopper Soup." Others maintain that it's impossible to describe the magnificence in words. At 6,225 feet above sea level, Tahoe is the highest alpine lake in the United States and has long attracted vacationers from around the world. In the summer, hiking, windsurfing, golfing, fishing and swimming (usually in wet suits due to the lake's brisk year-round temperature) are all the rage. The winter season, which actually starts around Thanksgiving, brings throngs of skiers to area resorts. Located between California and Nevada, different sides of the lake tend to attract different types of visitors. The California side draws families and outdoor enthusiasts while the Nevada side beckons those looking for big name entertainment and casinos. No matter which side you choose, a getaway to stunning Lake Tahoe will not soon be forgotten.

We made reservations and the process of securing our kayaks was made much easier as a result. Friendly staff that was efficient in getting us checked in and on the water. We rented two tandem kayaks and it was an amazing way to see the north shore area of the lake. Renting kayaks right on the water made for a super easy rental and return. Wonderful day...just remember to not neglect putting sunscreen on your legs like we did.

I have rented skis from these guys for at least 7 years or more on my annual trip to Tahoe. Ryan has ALWAYS been kind, helpful, insightful and fun! No matter who is working, they all take care of each other and the customers. The store has a laid back but incredibly helpful vibe. I bought one of my favorite jackets from them a few years ago and last week I bought a brand new ski/board bag at a really great price. They always remember me and my crew, answer all our crazy questions and put us on the equipment we need. I can't say enough good things about the way they treat their customers. After a horrible experience at one of the Powder house locations I wanted to make sure people know to go here if you can. It's not walking distance from the big casinos but it's worth the 2 minute uber ride to get there if you don't have a rental.

Excellent customer service. While at the hottest season the folks at AWS really tried to accommodate our last minute ask (same day) for a boat rental, and succeeded. Checking in was way simpler than with other rentals we experienced before At the check in and check out EVERYONE were genuinely friendly (found it pretty unique). we were notified about a possible storm, but advised that we can take the boat to as much as we want and be credited back if returning the boat earlier. Needless to say that we had a blast.

We loved riding the e-bikes along the East Shore trail. The e-bikes made the hills enjoyable and you couldn’t ask for more breathtaking views! We stopped for a swim at Hidden Beach which was both beautiful and refreshing. Be advised that Sand Harbor is closer to bikes for now due to COVID. Andy at the bike shop was very friendly and gave great directions.
