Les Jardins de Lornay

Just a step from the "Jardins Secrets" of Vaulx, between the lakes of Annecy and Bourget, "Les Jardins de Lornay" gather the biggest collection of bamboo of the region: more than 70 species of rare bamboo going from the dwarf to the giants of more than 12 meters. A botanical curiosity to be discovered according to a free wandering - or guided by his creator - on 1,5 hectare of romantics gardens.

What a wonderful park located between the old city and the lake of Annecy. Many plants, seating options as well as various sculptures - outstanding! Is this a helpful review? Then please give me a "Thumbs up Thank FrankGeisler" by clicking the button below.

Le Chateau de Montrottier

Just 10 minutes’ drive from Annecy in the French Haute-Savoie, Domaine de Montrottier is a fairytale castle. Its rooms are home to a treasure trove of curiosities – a unique collection of weapons, Asian finery and ceramics. The gardens play host to a delightful, theme-led and interactive walk, which offers an introduction to the estate’s former residents: spies, ambassadors or noble ladies…in short, Montrottier provides a wonderful journey back in time, across changing fashions and cultural traditions.

Located just 10km off Annecy, the Chateau de Montrottier stands out magnificently when you approach it by car. There is plenty of parking available and you will most surely find a lot directly in front of the entrance. Even though we visited in the midst of the touristic season the castle was not overcrowded. It is a very nice destination for a short break with kids. The entrance is somewhat pricy at EUR8 for an adult, but if you are up to a wait and speak French this also includes a guided tour (1h) with which one can visit four or five extra rooms. We did not want to wait and still it was worth its price.

Chateau de Ripaille, jardins, vignobles

Thé château has recently reopened after extensive renovation of the roof. This is ongoing but did not distract from the experience. We arrived at opening time and had the place almost to ourselves, no need to book in advance. The free English leaflet guide was very good, or you can pay extra for an audio guide- we didn’t bother. The history and displays were more about the wealthy industrialist owner around 1900 and his renovation, lots of Art Nouveau including William Morris. Thé film and display about the recent renovations were also fascinating. Beautiful interior. Highly recommended.
