10 Fun Activities & Games in Atlanta That You Shouldn't Miss

June 1, 2021 Layne Dawes

Atlanta has been dubbed everything from the "capital of the new South" and "the next international city" to "the best place to do business." It's also a great place to visit. Fueled by the prosperity of local mega companies like Coca Cola and Holiday Inn, the prestige of hosting the 1996 Summer Olympic Games and the energy of young upwardly mobile types who have migrated to the city in droves - Atlanta is on fire. And this time it's a good thing. From world-class restaurants and a myriad of cultural attractions to a hip nightlife and sporting events galore, the city is cosmopolitan in every sense of the word. But Atlanta has also managed to maintain its historic character. Stop by the Atlanta History Center or visit the Martin Luther King Jr. Historical Site, a moving tribute to an American icon. Browse through the former home of famous author Margaret Mitchell or pop into the Jimmy Carter Library and Museum for details on the life and times of the former president and his family. Whether you choose modern urban endeavors or old southern pleasures, Atlanta will not disappoint.

The 100th escape room needs to be special and as it is also our second wedding anniversary, making it as part of our holiday was always the plan. The only concern we had was that generally in the States you are put into a bigger group if you are a pair, OR need to buy the whole set of tickets which are often 8-10!! BREAKOUT is different. Learning from Europe (where the games began) they offer exclusive booking, yes it's a little more in a pair (not 10 players worth though) and certainly good value especially when you consider what they have to offer. Breakout in Buckhead has a large selection of rooms and staff who are absolutely passionate about the escape experience, AND PLAY GAMES THEMSELVES (it's amazing how many gamesmasters don't these days!) We booked three games : Museum Heist (our 100th - fitting as our first was also the return of a stolen painting, back in 2015 in Oslo...also practically to the day too!), Casino Royale and Runaway Train. All three were very different - excellent within one centre. The setting of each was unique and completely immersive and the puzzles were extremely appropriate to set and story. Casino Royale and Runaway Train were a little more linear than Museum Heist - but had their own assets - Casino Royale includes the meta puzzle (overall puzzle within the game), and Runaway train is nicely physical as well. Also it wasn't 'death by padlock'. Yes there were locks but they were varied within themselves and how they could be opened...along with a number of other puzzles too of course. For the two of us there was tons to do and while we escaped each, we really had to work for it! We would definitely recommend Breakout - a little piece of the best of Europe's escapes with American flair. Thanks for a fantastic day.

Al Capone’s Speakeasy was amazing and the live actor, Skyler, was so fantastic and believable that you will feel as though you have been transported back to the early 1900’s. This escape room is so unique that I would have to say that it’s one of my favorites I’ve done.

Atlanta Magic Theater

After six years of performing the highest-rated show in San Francisco at The Marrakech Magic Theater, two years at the original Atlanta Magic Theater in the Old Fourth Ward, magician and owner Peter Morrison has brought his incredible 75-minute stage show with pre-show close up magic to the Embassy Suites on Centennial Olympic Park. This two-part experience involves close-up and stage magic, mentalism and tons of audience involvement. Cherished memories will be made during Peter’s unique magic and comedy performance! If you wish to enjoy close-up magic before the theater show, we encourage you to come early to our pre-show function area located just around the corner from our Main Theater entrance. During this time, magician Peter Morrison will personally greet you and perform mind-boggling sleight-of-hand magic for your party. Drinks can be purchased from Ruth’s Chris bar on the other side of the atrium and enjoyed during the pre-show and brought into theater at show time.
