Shrimant Bajirao Peshwa Samadhi

Reviewed By TechieTraveller94 - Mumbai, India

As a proud Maharashtrian about ancient history, ever since I read about the Peshwe Bajirao, it created an extreme desire to visit the samadhi place of one of India's greatest warrior. I and one of my friends explored the nearby places of Raverkhedi on Google maps and found that it’s quite nearby to the Omkareshwar and Mamleshwar Jyotirlinga. I happened to visit the place on 30th Dec 2019, starting my journey from Indore by car. Firstly, we took darshan at both the Jyotirlinga’s and then proceeded to Raverkhedi via Sanawad and Beria. If you plan to visit the place from Mumbai or any other location in India, there are train routes up to Sanawad station. The distance is approximately 40-45 km from Omkareshwar and hence, one can cover all the three places in a day. Proper tar roads and periodic indicators about the Samadhi sthal help in getting to the place in a much better way. You may take help from locals if needed as they are completely aware of the place. The Samadhi place immediately captures attention and makes you wonder about the greatness of this remarkable general of the Maratha empire. Not only the Samadhi place but also the picturesque background with river Narmada flowing on either side and crop fields such as wheat, red chilies, chickpeas, etc. make up for a great location in terms of the natural aspects as well. Here are some of the clicks from my recent visit. Hope you enjoy visiting the place and let me know if you have any queries..!!

Ahilyabai Ghats

Reviewed By Adityasaraswat1801 - Navi Mumbai, India

We had heard about Maheshwar which is about 72 km from Indore and has been a seat of power for the Holkar Dynasty for hundreds of years, This is a very serene small city on the banks of the river Narmada, The main attraction is the Ahilyabai Ghat which is a riverfront type ghat on the banks of the river, Best times to visit are early morning to 11:00 and evening from 16:00 onwards to night, They also have a Narmada aarti in the evenings at 20:00 hours everyday, This is a picturesque location and very calming to the mind as u can just keep sitting here in the light river breeze and forget about everything else, The ghat boasts of very ancient temples which have very interesting stories about them, Please do a local guide who are very helpful and knowledgable, they charge about Rs. 350 per session and are worth it.

Queen's Fort

Reviewed By Adityasaraswat1801 - Navi Mumbai, India

This fort is amazing, it’s like a city in itself, I loved the fort immediately as it’s both unique as some of the parts of it are non glamourous like Devi Ahilyabai’s residence and seat from where she used to rule the kingdoms, And then when u move lower to the ghat section the imposing walls and the grand ghats along the banks of Narmada river are a site to look at, The fort has aesthetic as well as historic and religious value as there are a lot of historic temples in the fort area, everyone of them are unique in its story telling, The most ancient one being here Ravana had come to do his penance, that old, The fort also houses the famous Maheshwari handloom and sarees are made and sold here. Excellent for a two hour excursion.

Ahilyeshwar Temple

Reviewed By shails92 - Rudrapur, India

The first place to head to here is the Maheshwar Ghat. Situated by the banks of the majestic Narmada River, with its waters glistening a soft golden in the mellow morning sunshine, you will notice how this place brims over with Hindu devotees, seeking holy blessings at this spiritual site. The clanging of bells, the lineup of priests and devotees offering their solemn prayers by the ghat, might look like a sight to the average city-dweller, but for the locals, it is nothing but part of their daily routine.

Rehwa Society

Reviewed By SunnyandBuster - Seattle, United States

Rehwa society was found in the 1970’s to support local weavers and sustain their craft. It has grown and now supports many weavers and provides not only an outlet for their work but a chance for the rest of us to own a piece of these beautiful Maheshwari textiles. You can tour through the production area (though most weavers work from home) and see the weavers in action. It is a precise and demanding type of work with incredibly beautiful results. Shopping here supports the work of the foundation, the weavers and ensures the future of this amazing craft. Everyone was very friendly and we enjoyed our visit immensely.
